About Us: Barnet Products is a Sales and Marketing Company, located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. We supply specialty chemical ingredients and selected commodity products to cosmetic, personal care and pharmaceutical companies (consumer products divisions). We were established in 1987 with a commitment to finding, developing, and presenting new concepts, ingredients and systems to our customers.
The Position: The Candidate will independently perform lab stability from start to finish. GIC Associate Chemist will manage stability testing, storage and lab supplies inventory. Will provide lab and data entry support to chemists on daily basis for a better workflow performance. When required, will provide stability testing and data entry training for new hires and lab personnel. Associate Chemist will troubleshoot any stability-induced conditions and adjust formulations as needed to provide solutions for customer projects. The candidate will be responsible for research, which aids in formulation and development of various cosmetic products on the bench. Associate Chemist will also track and manage multiple development projects including stock formulas, interface with customers providing technical, troubleshooting support via e-mail, meetings and calls. The Associate Chemist will ensure all safety procedures and maintain efficiency of testing materials and protocols. The Candidate will work in a team-oriented environment and be self-motivated.
Essential Job Functions:
- Fill, set-up and label stability for all laboratory batches.
- Check stability at time points listed in the SOP and request final sign off by chemist (or by manager if it is part of active evaluation). Create and maintain binder of good and bad stability examples.
- Manage, independently, stability from start to finish.
- Enter stability results and pictures into Coptis.
- Provide good communication with GIC chemists regarding stability data to ensure proper stability testing procedures.
- Ensure proper calibration, biannually or annually, of Q.C equipment required for testing such as the viscometer and scales.
- Temperature checks of ovens and fridge to ensure they are at the right temperature for stability.
- Provide Coptis and stability trainings for new members of GIC.
- Create SOPs for the new lab equipment with the advisement of lab chemists.
- Contacting waste disposal company. It must be done when drum is close to full.
- Responsible for organizing lab bench weekly, such as putting away bulk, stability samples, raw materials, lab cleaning etc.
- Responsible for keeping lab environment organized, safe and clean.
- Provide training of the following instrumentation: viscometer, pH meter, homogenizer, centrifuge etc.
- Provide support (if necessary) in requesting samples of raw materials for the lab from outside vendors.
- Provide support to other chemists and Manager in Global Innovation Center when required.
- Manage low inventory items to support GIC chemist to maintain stock library (ex. Formulas, collections, sales tools & kits).
- Customer Support.
- Responsible for prioritizing and formulating multiple customer projects with advisement of the Manager, Global Innovation Center.
- Responsible for providing technical support to customers via e-mail, meetings, calls with advisement of the Manager, Global Innovation Center.
- Responsible for performing product stability and resolve any issues that arise with advisement of the Manager, Global Innovation Center.
- Responsible for scaling up, filling, running stability, and maintaining inventory of all stock formulas which includes managing and remaking low stock items.
- Responsible for managing the stock formulas and standards inventory spreadsheets, which includes adding new collections and removing discontinued formulas.
- Responsible for communicating and providing new stock collections to the samples department.
- Preparing and maintaining standards of stock formulas and ensuring they are within the expiration date.
Additional Qualifications and Requirements:
- College Degree required, excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- 0 - 1 year of experience in a lab environment
- Expertise with Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
