Full Job Description

UltraSystems Environmental – Irvine, CA

UltraSystems has an immediate opening for a Field Botanist to join our expanding Biological Resources Department. This is a regular, full-time position to work primarily in the Southern California area, but project assignments will also involve travel to other areas. The successful candidate will be based in our Irvine office. Starting wage depends on qualifications and experience.

We assist public-agency clients with natural resource management, infrastructure development and regulatory compliance. Founded in 1994, we have more than 32 professional, technical and support staff serving clients throughout California. Currently, we are seeking the right person to fill the role of Field Biologist to support our Irvine, CA office.

Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. (M.S. preferred) degree in botany, wetland ecology, field biology, or closely related field.
- At least 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in California performing special status plant and general vegetation survey, vegetation community mapping, and wetland delineation and assessments.
- Should have excellent plant identification skills and knowledge with appropriate California botanical references.
- Must have strong field botany skills, ability to conduct fieldwork, at times for long hours or under strenuous circumstances. Additionally, must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Desired Qualifications include:
- Education and experience in plant taxonomy and surveys, habitat/ association mapping.
- Knowledge of vegetation communities that are native to California.
- Experience with sensitive/rare plant surveys and reporting. Familiarity with CNPS and Department of Fish and Game survey and mitigation guidelines for rare plants.
- Knowledge of or experience with CEQA/NEPA and environmental impact analysis.
- Broad botanical knowledge, including plant identification, California botany and floristics, and vegetation ecology.
- Knowledge of plant conservation laws and regulations, both California and Federal.

Position Duties

Field verification and reporting.

Report and proposal writing, task management.

Client and agency contact.

Technical support to various projects.
