Job Title

Building Code Compliance Expert – AI Trainer

Hourly contract position. Compensation is paid based on hours worked and approved project time.

Job Summary

In this role as a Building Code Compliance Expert supporting AI Training and evaluation initiatives, you will apply your expertise in building codes, permitting, inspections, zoning, and construction compliance to help improve next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world regulatory and construction-related input.

This is an hourly-paid contract opportunity, not a traditional full-time construction, permitting, or code enforcement position. Contributors will work on project-based AI training tasks while collaborating remotely with distributed teams in a flexible work environment. No prior AI experience is required — your building compliance expertise is what matters.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct reviews of architectural, engineering, and construction plans to assess compliance with applicable building codes and regulations.
Contribute to AI training and evaluation projects through code interpretation tasks, compliance assessments, response evaluation, and related workflows.
Interpret blueprints, permit documents, zoning requirements, construction specifications, and technical documentation.
Analyze code-related scenarios and provide clear, well-reasoned compliance recommendations and explanations.
Identify permitting issues, code violations, regulatory concerns, and potential compliance risks across residential and commercial projects.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and permitting professionals to evaluate compliance-related questions and solutions.
Produce clear written reports, findings, and explanations related to code interpretation and regulatory requirements.
Support the development and improvement of AI systems by providing accurate, real-world building compliance expertise.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Demonstrated professional experience in building codes, permitting, inspections, zoning, plan review, code enforcement, or construction compliance.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
Experience working with residential and/or commercial construction projects.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex code requirements clearly.
Ability to work independently and remotely while managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams and stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to regulatory accuracy and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant certifications such as ICC, NFPA, state-issued licenses, or equivalent professional credentials.
Experience working with city, county, or municipal building departments, permitting offices, or regulatory agencies.
Experience in code enforcement, plan review, virtual inspections, compliance consulting, or permitting operations.
Background in architecture, engineering, construction management, land development, or related disciplines.
Familiarity with AI model evaluation or AI training-related compliance and regulatory review tasks is a plus.
