Full Job Description

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Revenue Cycle Manager, the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist translates clinical documentation into standardized codes, ensuring the accurate and timely submission of claims and reimbursement from insurance payers. You will be responsible for identifying and resolving complex billing issues, managing accounts receivable (A/R), and partnering with providers to improve documentation quality.

Essential Functions:

Medical Coding

1. Medical Coding: Analyze patient medical records to accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes to diagnoses and procedures.

2. Data Accuracy: Using coding software, medical dictionaries, and classification manuals to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal regulations.

3. Provider Collaboration: Work with clinical staff to clarify documentation for medical necessity and accurate coding.

4. Administrative Tasks: Assisting with billing, auditing charts, and managing medical records. Participates in our internal audit process.

Medical Billing

1. Claims Management: Prepare and submit clean electronic and paper claims to primary, secondary, and tertiary payers. Accuracy in claim editing, billing, and posting processes.

2. Revenue Cycle Support: Post payments manually or electronically, track and manage A/R aging reports, and reconcile ERA/EOB remittances.

3. Denials & Appeals: Monitor claim status, address rejections, and draft effective appeals for denied claims.

4. Patient Interaction: Answer inquiries regarding costs, insurance coverage, and payment plans while maintaining professional communication.

5. Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere to HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and state/federal healthcare laws.

6. Administrative Tasks: Assisting with insurance payer medical record requests.

Organizational Responsibilities

1. Quality Improvement: Participates in the organization’s quality improvement program

2. Core Values: Demonstrates knowledge and practice of the organization’s Core Values of Universal Accountability, Effective Communication, Team Unity, and Trust

Education and Experience:

· Experience: Minimum of 2 years of active experience in a medical billing and coding role.

· Education: High school diploma required

Certification: Required certification:

§ Certified Professional Coder (CPC) -OR-
§ Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Expert knowledge of EHR/Practice Management platforms (e.g. Medent, CPR+, CareTend, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word))

· Knowledge of Pharmaceutical Part B Billing a plus

· Strong analytical abilities, extreme attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently· Effective written and verbal communication skills

Typical Work Environment

· Setting: Small medical practice

· Role: Hybrid: 3-4 days, 1 day remote after demonstrated proficiency as determined by supervisor

· Medical Specialties: Multi-specialty clinic, laboratory, and pharmaceutical services

Pay: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
