Engineering Documentation Specialist
Automotive component manufacturer located on the Northside of Chicago seeks an Engineering Documentation Specialist with technical writing skills and experience working with an ERP system and CAD tools to create, review and implement Engineering Change Orders, BOMs, and CAD models and drawings. This position is full-time, in-person.
Responsibilities:
- Perform Engineering Document Control activities including preparing, reviewing, processing and coordinating company approval of Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
- Review technical documents for accuracy and consistency with associated BOMs, work instructions, service documents, and resolving discrepancies.
- Create or update documentation to accurately reflect design and other changes, including reconciling ERP BOMs.
- Communicate effectively with multiple departments to ensure proper notifications and processing of ECO reviews and approvals.
- Maintain databases to reflect status of all ECOs and associated documents.
- Manage and maintain archiving of ECO documentation.

- Experience reviewing and validating engineering documentation (drawing, BOMs, ECOs) for accuracy and completeness preferred.
- Experience coordinating engineering changes across a manufacturing company preferred.
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks, meet deadlines, and proactively follow up on open activities.
- Must have the ability to navigate and enforce structured workflows (approvals, releases, change tracking).
- Knowledge of engineering drawings/CAD including drawing preparation. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, part numbering schemes, and multi-level BOM structures. Experience in Creo is preferred.
Education:
- Associate’s degree or higher
Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience in an Engineering and/or Manufacturing environment working directly with technical documentation, for example, work instructions, technical drawings, material data sheets, and bills of material.
- Experience reading and interpreting schematic diagrams and mechanical drawings, including an understanding of GD&T fundamentals.
- Prior use of CAD, Data Management, ERP tools, with Creo, Windchill, and Epicor preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook). MS Access also preferred.
