JOB

Salary Range Effective 7/13/2026:

$9,339 - $11,198 Monthly

This journey-level position plays a critical role in the daily operation and reliability of the District’s water distribution system. Under general supervision, the Distribution System Operator monitors, inspects, and performs maintenance activities within the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) control room and across water distribution facilities. The role also serves as a central communication hub, coordinating radio and telephone dispatch for both District personnel and customers.

Incumbents are expected to independently analyze system data, respond to complex operational issues, and take corrective action to maintain system performance and safety. In addition to technical responsibilities, this position supports the development of staff by assisting in the training of new Water Distribution Operators.

Key duties include operating and monitoring the water system through a modern SCADA platform; analyzing system data to identify and resolve abnormal conditions; maintaining SCADA-related equipment; utilizing GIS and mapping tools to troubleshoot system issues; dispatching field personnel in response to system and customer concerns; and performing inspections, adjustments, and maintenance at distribution facilities. The role also requires operating communication systems, maintaining accurate logs, and supporting emergency operations when needed.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Operates and monitors the water system using a modern SCADA system;
analyzes data obtained from the SCADA system in order to correct abnormal conditions in the water system;
performs routine maintenance to SCADA system peripherals, such as changing printer paper, ribbons or cartridges;
uses both hard copy maps and computerized GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data to analyze and correct system problems;
receives and analyzes consumer and system problems, dispatches the appropriate District personnel;
operates a computer based radio/telephone communication console;
maintains a computer based radio/telephone log and related computer programs;
installs and operates emergency system bypass lines, regulator systems and pumping systems;
performs inspections, adjustments and maintenance at water distribution facilities; and
follows applicable safety rules and regulations
