Full Job Description

Job Title: Remote Inpatient Medical Coder

Job ID: R196698

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to accurately code and abstract inpatient hospital records in accordance with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and official coding guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong inpatient facility coding experience, preferably in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center, and be able to meet daily productivity expectations while maintaining coding accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient hospital accounts.
Abstract inpatient medical records according to established coding guidelines.
Review clinical documentation to ensure accurate MS-DRG assignment.
Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and Quality teams to validate coding and documentation.
Generate physician queries when documentation clarification is needed.
Monitor assigned work queues and complete coding within required turnaround times.
Stay current with coding regulations, coding updates, and industry standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of inpatient facility coding experience.
Experience with acute inpatient hospital coding is required.
Level I or Level II Trauma Center coding experience is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and MS-DRG.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Required Certifications (One of the Following)

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) – AHIMA
Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) – AAPC
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) – AHIMA
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) – AHIMA

Productivity Expectations

Complete 16–17 inpatient charts per day while maintaining a high level of coding accuracy.
