Overview

We are seeking an experienced Billing & Coding Manager to lead our Billing & Coding team. This is a hands-on, working manager position that combines team leadership with active participation in daily billing and coding operations. The ideal candidate has experience in pathology or clinical laboratory billing, enjoys mentoring staff, and is committed to delivering accurate, compliant, and timely billing services.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, coach, mentor, and develop the Medical Billing & Coding team, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and professional development.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of medical billing and coding to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant charge entry, coding, claims processing, and billing activities.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, payer requirements, HIPAA, CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and organizational policies and procedures.
Monitor departmental productivity, quality, operational performance, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Serve as the subject matter expert for complex pathology billing, coding, reimbursement, documentation, and regulatory issues.
Collaborate with physicians, laboratory personnel, Revenue Cycle, Finance, Compliance, Information Technology, Client Services, and clinical leadership to resolve billing and coding concerns.
Promote exceptional customer service through professional and effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, clients, and third-party payers.
Conduct routine coding audits, documentation reviews, and compliance assessments to ensure coding accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Develop, maintain, and update departmental policies, workflows, standard operating procedures, and training materials.

Qualifications

5+ years of medical billing and coding experience (Pathology or clinical laboratory billing experience strongly preferred).
3+ years of supervisory experience.
Associate degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required. A bachelor's degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and payer reimbursement guidelines.
CPC, CCS, or equivalent certification preferred.
