CommTech is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Technical Lead to lead the technical delivery and day-to-day support for a defined subset of our managed services clients. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who wants ownership, influence, and leadership while remaining hands-on technically.
You will act as the technical escalation point for your team, ensure clients are stable and well-supported, and proactively drive improvements in reliability, security, and efficiency. This is not a ticket-only role — it is a role centered on accountability and continuous improvement.
This is a primarily on-site position based in our Metairie, LA office. Limited remote flexibility may be available after onboarding and establishment in the role; however, regular in-office presence is required to support team development, collaboration, and escalation.
Duties
Client Ownership & Service Delivery
- Serve as the technical owner for a group of managed services clients
- Ensure tickets are responded to and resolved within SLA
- Identify recurring issues, risks, and technical debt
- Plan and recommend improvements to client environments focused on:
- Stability
- Security
- Operational efficiency
- Technology capability advancement
- Participate in technical client discussions and recommendations
Technical Leadership & Escalation
- Act as the primary escalation point for your assigned engineering team
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, networking, and security issues
- Ensure solutions follow best practices and are properly documented
- Assist in planning and execution of remediation and improvement initiatives
Team Development & Mentorship
- Mentor and support engineers on your team
- Help elevate technical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and documentation habits
- Set expectations around ownership, quality, and accountability
Experience
Infrastructure & Systems
- VMware (ESXi, vCenter) – strongly preferred
- Proxmox – experience a plus
- Windows Server and Windows desktop environments
- Linux administration and troubleshooting
Networking & Security
- Fortinet firewalls and security stack – highest preference
- Aruba switching and wireless
- VLANs, VPNs, routing, firewall rules, and general network troubleshooting
Cloud & SaaS
- Microsoft 365 (Entra ID / Azure AD, Exchange, SharePoint, security features)
MSP Tools (Familiarity Preferred)
- ConnectWise (PSA and/or RMM)
- Other common MSP tools for monitoring, security, and automation
Certifications / Education (Preferred)
- At least 2 industry certifications
- Fortinet certifications strongly preferred
- Microsoft, VMware, or security/networking certifications are a plus
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience & Traits
- Senior-level systems engineering experience
- MSP experience preferred but not required
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable owning outcomes, not just tasks
- Clear communicator with solid documentation habits
Work Authorization & Location Requirements

- This role requires regular, on-site work in Metairie, LA
Compensation & Growth
- Base Salary: $90,000 – $110,000
- Performance Bonus: Up to $15,000 annually (paid quarterly)
- Based on client health, SLA performance, operational improvements, team effectiveness, and company profitability
