Vice President of Accounting

Location: Remote (Multi-State Organization)

We are a growing, multi-state property management organization seeking an experienced Vice President of Accounting to lead our accounting function during an exciting period of growth and operational evolution. This is a leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, solving complex financial challenges, and partnering with leaders across the organization.

The ideal candidate is not someone who waits for direction. We're looking for a confident self-starter who naturally identifies opportunities, anticipates issues before they become problems, and develops practical, scalable solutions. Success in this role requires exceptional critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through change.

What You'll Do

Provide strategic leadership for all property and corporate accounting operations across a multi-state portfolio.
Lead and develop a high-performing (primarily off-shore) accounting team through coaching, accountability, and professional development.
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
Establish and continuously improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insight that supports business decisions and long-term growth.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Manage audits, tax filings, lender reporting, and relationships with external auditors and business partners.
Analyze financial trends, identify risks, and recommend proactive solutions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, asset management, human resources, and executive leadership to drive organizational success.

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA strongly preferred).
Progressive accounting leadership experience, including experience leading managers and developing teams.
Property Management accounting experience required; affordable housing accounting experience strongly preferred.
Thorough understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
Demonstrated success improving processes and implementing operational efficiencies.
Outstanding analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
