OVERVIEW:
Our client is a healthcare services organization operating in a regulated payor environment with complex accounting, reporting, compliance, and operational finance requirements. The company has a multi-entity structure and relies on both internal accounting resources and external accounting partners to support accurate financial reporting, audit readiness, treasury, statutory reporting, and internal control discipline.
They are seeking a Director of Accounting to oversee accounting operations, close management, financial reporting, audit coordination, accounting policies, internal controls, and process improvement. This role will partner closely with senior finance leadership and interact regularly with executive leadership, business leaders, regulatory stakeholders, auditors, and outsourced service providers.
The ideal candidate brings strong controllership experience, healthcare payor accounting exposure, knowledge of GAAP and statutory reporting requirements, and the ability to lead accounting processes in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities across multiple entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Manage internal accounting staff and outsourced accounting partners to ensure close timelines, reporting deliverables, and review standards are met.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, management reporting packages, and supporting schedules.
- Oversee accounting and reporting across a complex legal entity structure, including healthcare-related entities, operating subsidiaries, and affiliated service organizations.
- Prepare and review monthly financial packages for senior finance leadership, market leaders, department heads, and executive stakeholders.
- Support accounting for provider-related arrangements, incentive payments, shared savings programs, allocations, and other healthcare operating activity.
- Coordinate with regulatory and compliance teams to support statutory filings, regulatory reporting deadlines, and related financial information requests.
- Maintain detailed close checklists, review procedures, and documentation standards to support audit readiness and reporting accuracy.
- Plan and manage audit activities, including external financial audits, internal audits, regulatory audits, and government-related inquiries.
- Serve as a key accounting contact for auditors and external advisors on financial reporting, GAAP compliance, statutory reporting, and internal control matters.
- Oversee treasury-related activities, including cash management, cash forecasting, intercompany funding, liquidity planning, and capital needs analysis.
- Support accounts payable oversight, vendor payment workflows, invoice tracking, approval processes, disbursements, and expense coding controls.
- Monitor allocation processes, intercompany activity, and cost-sharing arrangements to ensure accurate financial reporting across entities.
- Manage budget upload activities and help ensure alignment between approved budgets, actual results, and reporting outputs.
- Evaluate outsourced accounting partner performance, provide feedback, and help improve service quality, technical accuracy, and accountability.
- Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
- Mentor accounting team members and help build a stronger accounting function through training, review, and process discipline.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, automation, data sharing, reporting efficiency, and financial data quality.
- Support tax-related coordination, including external preparer tracking, filing support, payment review, and responses to tax authority inquiries.
- Assist with special projects such as acquisitions, financing activities, system implementations, process improvements, and other strategic initiatives.
- Help identify material financial and operational risks and communicate key issues to senior finance leadership.
- Ensure accounting activities are performed in accordance with company policies, compliance requirements, regulatory expectations, and confidentiality standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or similar advanced credential required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting, audit, financial reporting, or controllership experience, including management responsibility.
- Prior experience within a healthcare payor organization required.
- Experience in managed care, Medicare Advantage, value-based care, risk-bearing healthcare entities, senior care, skilled nursing, or similarly regulated healthcare environments strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, monthly close, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, accruals, internal controls, and audit support.
- Familiarity with statutory accounting, regulatory financial reporting, and NAIC reporting preferred.
- Big 4 or national public accounting experience preferred.
- Experience leading internal accounting teams and managing outsourced accounting providers.
- Strong understanding of healthcare-related accounting activity, including provider payments, shared savings arrangements, allocations, and multi-entity reporting.
- Experience coordinating with regulatory, compliance, legal, tax, audit, and external advisory teams.
- Strong treasury, cash management, cash forecasting, and intercompany funding experience preferred.
- Experience supporting audits, regulatory inquiries, statutory reporting, tax filings, and process documentation.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with financial systems; Intacct or similar ERP experience preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, strict deadlines, and complex reporting needs in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills with the ability to influence across departments, geographies, and external partner organizations.
- Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail, accuracy, accountability, and professional judgment.
Pay: $200,000.00 - $230,000.00 per year
