Full Job Description

Controls Engineer I

Position Summary:

In this role the Controls Engineer I is responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of control systems for manufacturing and industrial processes. This individual will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to assist in automation projects, troubleshoot control systems, and ensure optimal equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the design and development of control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms
Support programming, testing, and debugging of automation systems
Collaborate with senior engineers to implement control system solutions for new and existing equipment
Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime
Participate in system commissioning, startup, and validation activities
Create and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications
Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and safety
Work with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and production staff
Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
Experience in controls, automation, or a related internship/co-op
Basic knowledge of PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems
Understanding of electrical systems, control theory, and industrial automation concepts
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
Effective communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Internship or hands-on experience in manufacturing or automation environments
Exposure to robotics, motion control, or machine vision systems
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools
