Looking for an awesome experience while working with kids? Come be an Instructor (Code Coach) at theCoderSchool Montgomery! theCoderSchool is a during and after-school program for young coders. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with locations around the country, we provide a fun, energetic, and inspirational environment to bring out that inner hacker in all kids! You'll meet incredible kids, teach them how to code, and be rewarded with an AMAZING experience. Being reliable and able to build good relationships with children are essential traits of a Code Coach. You need general knowledge of a few computer languages, including Scratch. If this sounds like an awesome opportunity then we'd like to hear from you!

Responsibilities

A Code Coach is a mentor who teaches kids how to code. At theCoderSchool Montgomery, we have a few basic teaching styles-- your assignment will depend on schedule, availability, and desire.

1. Code Coaching. Our core offering is a weekly semi-private coding session with kids. Younger kids will be taught in Scratch or Snap, while older kids gravitate towards Python, Javascript, Java, C++ and beyond. The kids will generally create apps that you decide with them following a personalized, custom curriculum.

2. Code Coaching Plus. In a PLUS session, you'll manage a team of kids who will collaborate in a group exercises to improve their presentation skills with an objective to prepare their presentations for our regular Code Fairs.

3. Code Class. You'll manage a team of kids who will collaborate in group exercises to improve their presentation skills with an objective to prepare their presentation for our regular Coder Fairs.

This position rocks because you will:

Meet, mentor, and grow amazing kids who are ready to be our next generation of coders!
Meet and share with other Code Coaches who are passionate about the latest platforms and languages, including with schools and coaches from around the country through our collaboration platform.
Give back to the community and help grow our next generation by sharing your knowledge of technology.
Have the flexibility to teach what you’re most comfortable with, and learn new things along the way.

Requirements

PASSION. All Caps! This is all about the kids, we want you to be excited!
Strong grasp of basic procedural programming
Knowledge of Javascript, Scratch, HTML/CSS, Python and Java are most helpful
Experience teaching kids in any subject is a plus, as is experience with Scratch
Patient and reliable with a healthy respect for time
Energetic and positive personality
First aid and CPR-certified preferred but not required
High school diploma at minimum, we welcome self-taught coders
Organizational and communication skills
A desire to help change the world through technology
Hours per week: 10-25
