COMPASS Program Director

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 annually

Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Full-Year Position (Fall, Spring, Summer, and School Breaks)

Organization: The Center for Educational Innovation (CEI)

Work Location: In-Person

Reports To: CEI Chief Program Officer

ABOUT THE COMPASS PROGRAM

The COMPASS Program provides high-quality after-school, school break, and summer

programming designed to support the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of young people. Through a combination of academic enrichment, arts, sports, leadership development, STEM activities, and family engagement, COMPASS programs create safe and supportive environments where youth can learn, grow, and thrive beyond the traditional school day. COMPASS programs bring together students, families, schools, community organizations, and enrichment partners to provide meaningful learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth. Through strong partnerships and innovative programming, COMPASS helps participants build skills, confidence, and connections that contribute to their long-term success. POSITION SUMMARY

A central component of a successful COMPASS program is the effective coordination and

delivery of high-quality youth development and enrichment opportunities. The COMPASS

Program Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of program implementation, ensuring alignment with DYCD requirements, CEI objectives, and school community needs.

The Program Director will manage staff, coordinate partnerships, monitor program quality,

oversee enrollment and attendance, and support family engagement initiatives. Experience

working with diverse populations and high-need communities is essential to fostering strong

family relationships, supporting student success, and strengthening school partnerships.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will:

Be capable of engaging diverse communities.
Have experience working with corporations, schools, youth, and underserved populations.
Demonstrate familiarity with youth development principles, enrichment programming, and family engagement strategies.
Be a self-starter and self-directed learner with excellent organizational and management skills.
Possess strong interpersonal skills, including networking, grassroots community organizing, team-building, and collaborative leadership.
Have the flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
Exhibit the ability to track and evaluate the impact of programs and initiatives.
Demonstrate strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all COMPASS program activities during the school year, school breaks, and summer programming, ensuring alignment with CEI and DYCD objectives.
Coordinate enrichment activities, academic support services, leadership opportunities, and recreational programming for participants.
Develop and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for students.
Recruit, supervise, and support program staff, activity specialists, and volunteers.
Monitor program quality and ensure compliance with all DYCD, DOE, and CEI requirements.
Establish and maintain relationships with school administrators, families, community organizations, and enrichment providers.
Design and manage student-centered enrichment opportunities based on participant interests and needs.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

Maintain accurate records for programs, including participant enrollment, attendance, incident reports, partner agreements, and vendor documentation.
Manage student and staff schedules, timekeeping, attendance, and performance.
Oversee program budgets and monitor expenditures.
Track student participation data and program outcomes to measure success and support reporting requirements.
Ensure timely submission of all required reports and documentation.

COMMUNITY AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

Serve as a liaison among students, families, school personnel, community partners, and CEI leadership.
Build partnerships with corporations, community-based organizations, and local resources to expand opportunities for participants.
Coordinate family engagement activities, workshops, performances, showcases, and special events.
Conduct participant and family surveys to inform program planning and continuous improvement.
Foster a welcoming environment that encourages family involvement and community participation.

ATTENDANCE AND ENROLLMENT

Develop and implement strategies to maintain strong enrollment and participant attendance.
Monitor attendance data and follow up with families to encourage consistent participation.
Collect and analyze attendance and program participation data to guide decision-making and improve program outcomes.

MARKETING AND OUTREACH

Assist in promoting the COMPASS program within the school and broader community.
Support student recruitment efforts and community outreach initiatives.
Coordinate informational sessions and events to increase awareness and participation.

DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDRAISING

Participate in grant-seeking efforts and other fund development activities to support program growth and sustainability.
Assist with collecting program data and success stories for reports and funding opportunities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in youth development, after-school programming, or program management.
Experience with the New York City public school and/or nonprofit sector.
Ability to work effectively with administrators, educators, youth, families, and communities.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred.
Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in the education field.
Knowledge of New York City neighborhoods preferred.
DOE fingerprinting and background clearances required.
Experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Excel preferred.
Experience working with students and families from Title I communities.
