Full Job Description

Position Title: InterimDirector of K-6 Program

Job Type: Hourly (Administrative Non-Exempt)

Reports To: Head of School

FTE: Full Time, 1.0 FTE

POSITION SUMMARY: The Interim Director of K–6 Program serves as the educational and community leader for the school's elementary program, ensuring a cohesive and mission-aligned experience for students, families, and faculty. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director provides leadership in curriculum and instruction, student support and well-being, faculty development, family partnership, and enrollment management.

Grounded in the principles of progressive education, the Director champions student-centered learning, fosters a joyful and inclusive school culture, and supports the ongoing growth and refinement of the K–6 program. The Director works collaboratively with faculty, families, and administrative colleagues to advance the school's mission, strengthen community engagement, and support the recruitment, retention, and success of students.

The Director serves as a strategic thought partner to the Head of School and collaborates closely with the Director of Early Childhood Program, Director of Campus Operations, Director of Finance, and Director of Communications and Marketing to support institutional priorities and long-term sustainability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Enrollment Management & Admissions

Develop and execute admissions strategies to recruit and retain mission-aligned families through demographic research and trend analysis.
Manage the full admissions process from initial inquiry and campus tours to applicant evaluation and final enrollment recommendations.
Establish community and feeder program relationships, represent the school at events, and collaborate marketing materials.
Prepare regular data-driven reports on enrollment and retention to leadership.
Partner with families, faculty, and school leadership to support student retention and successful transitions across grade levels.

Curriculum, Instruction, and Program Leadership

Partner with the Head of School and faculty to lead the ongoing evaluation and refinement of the K–6 program, ensuring alignment with the school's mission, strategic priorities, and progressive educational philosophy.
Develop and implement consistent assessment and student reporting practices that reflect the school's mission, values, educational goals, and academic expectations across the K–6 program.
Provide coaching, mentorship, regular feedback, and professional learning opportunities that foster instructional excellence, reflective practice, innovation, differentiation, and continuous professional growth.
Foster a collaborative professional culture grounded in inquiry, collegiality, continuous learning, and the integration of progressive educational practices.
Lead faculty engagement with emerging educational research to strengthen curriculum development, instructional planning, and program excellence.
Conduct periodic observations of substitute teachers to support quality instruction and provide coaching and feedback as needed.

Student Support & Family Partnership

Foster a joyful, inclusive school climate that promotes student agency, restorative practices, successful transitions between grade levels, and a strong sense of belonging.
Coordinate systems of support for students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs in partnership with families, specialists, and school districts.
Cultivate trust-based partnerships with families through transparent communication, conflict resolution, parent conferences, and ongoing collaboration in support of student success.
Develop and coordinate family engagement and education opportunities that deepen understanding of child development, progressive education, and the school's mission.
Serve as a liaison between the school and its broader community, representing the school at events and fostering meaningful relationships with families, community partners, and other stakeholders.

Administrative Leadership

Serve on the senior leadership team to contribute to institutional decision-making, budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning.
Represent the school’s educational philosophy to all stakeholders and assume delegated leadership duties to support the Head of School.
Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies, procedures, accreditation efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
Prior classroom teaching experience, preferably in independent schools. Supervisory roles preferred.
Prior experience in independent school admissions management and/or enthusiasm for pursuing the role.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations in schools, school-age programs, and/or nonprofits.
Excellent familiarity with various databases, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and web-based applications (Canva, Squarespace, Mailchimp).
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Satisfactory completion of WA and national background checks.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff members are at all times responsible for the supervision of students directly in their care, and for students generally at all times when on campus or off campus during school activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a 12 month, hourly administrative position. There are some required commitments outside of regular school hours, including evening and weekend commitments. Schedules will need to be adjusted to remain within 40 hours/week while addressing the job duties as assigned. This position is a one-year interim position, with the opportunity to apply for the continuing role.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical requirements are consistent with light physical duties required of school personnel.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary: Hourly wage equivalent to $73,000- $85,000 annually

Position Classification: 12 months, Non-Exempt (Administrative)

Hours: Full Time, with the majority of work time to be completed on campus. As non-exempt administrative staff, some remote work is possible with prior approval from the Head of School.

Benefits: Some part time and all full time positions qualify for Medical and Dental with employer contribution up to 100% (dependent on schedule), retirement plan (up to 3% employer match), and paid time off.
