Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Earth Science Teacher for middle school students to prepare our 8thGrade students for the Earth Science Regents in June. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific research, laboratory experience, and effective classroom management skills. This role involves developing engaging lessons, integrating learning technology, and supporting students' academic growth in a dynamic educational environment.

Duties

Design and deliver comprehensive Earth Science lessons aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating topics such as geology, meteorology, earth and space sciences, oceanography, and environmental science.
Develop innovative instructional materials and utilize various learning technologies to enhance student engagement and understanding.
Conduct laboratory experiments
Assess student progress through standardized testing, quizzes, projects, and presentations; provide constructive feedback to support learning.
Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a positive learning environment conducive to inquiry and exploration.
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and participate in school-wide initiatives such as academic advising and instructional design.
Mentor students individually or in small groups to support tutoring needs or enrichment activities related to science research or higher education preparation.
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advances in earth sciences, teaching methodologies, and research laboratory techniques.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, or related field
Prior classroom experience teaching middle school science or equivalent educational settings
Strong knowledge of scientific disciplines
Experience with curriculum development, lesson planning, instructional design, and classroom management strategies.
Proficiency with learning technology tools and laboratory equipment; research laboratory experience is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills for effective instruction, mentoring students, and collaborating with colleagues.
Ability to adapt instruction for diverse learners including those requiring special education accommodations or ELL supports
Demonstrated ability to prepare students for standardized testing and academic advising sessions; experience with proofing educational materials is advantageous.
