Civil Engineering CAD Designer Position
Jacobson Consulting Engineers is hiring an experienced Civil Engineering CAD Designer with 4+ years of related experience in civil site development drafting, design production, and Civil 3D modeling. This role is focused on advanced civil engineering drafting, design production, Civil 3D modeling, Revit coordination, and construction document preparation in support of licensed engineering staff.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical drafting skills, practical knowledge of civil engineering design documents, and the ability to support complex site development projects from early design through construction documentation. This position requires a candidate who can work independently in Civil 3D, apply drafting and modeling standards, identify coordination issues, and collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, CAD staff, and other project team members.
This role will support a diverse portfolio of K-12 and Higher Education Facilities, Healthcare, Commercial and Office developments, Municipal, and corporate campus projects throughout the Puget Sound region.
This position follows a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three in-office days per week to support collaboration, mentoring, and project coordination.

Civil Engineering CAD Designer Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and construction plans for civil site development projects
- Use Civil 3D to develop and update grading, surfaces, pipe networks, alignments, profiles, corridors, and related civil design elements
- Use Revit to support interdisciplinary coordination with architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, and other project team members
- Translate engineering direction, design sketches, and markups into clear, coordinated construction documents
- Support plan production for site plans, grading plans, utility plans, storm drainage plans, roadway improvements, frontage improvements, details, and technical exhibits
- Apply JCE drafting standards, CAD requirements, file organization procedures, and quality control practices throughout each phase of the project
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, coordination, and consistency before internal review or submittal
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and CAD staff to resolve drafting, modeling, and design production issues
- Support junior CAD staff, CAD standards, drawing templates, and production workflow improvements as the firm continues to grow
Candidate Qualifications and Attributes
- 4+ years of relevant professional experience in civil engineering drafting, design production, or site development documentation
- Valid driver’s license required
- Associate’s degree or certificate in Civil Design Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or related technical training is preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit
- Civil 3D experience with surfaces, grading, pipe networks, alignments, profiles, corridors, and related civil design elements
- Understanding of civil engineering principles, site development, utility coordination, storm drainage, grading, and construction document production
- Ability to prepare technical drawings and construction plans with limited oversight
- Experience applying CAD standards, drawing organization, file management procedures, and quality control practices
- Experience using Bluebeam for document review, markup, and coordination
- Ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner
- Interest in continued technical growth, mentorship, and advancement into senior technician, designer, or project support responsibilities
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through

Compensation
- $32.00 - $50.00 per hour (depending on experience)
- Hourly employees are eligible for 1.5x pay for any time worked over 40 hours per week
