Accounting Assistant

Position Title: Accounting Assistant - Accounts Receivable Department: Finance & Administration Reports To: Accounting Manager Location: Temple Daily Telegram, Temple, TX Employment Type: Full-Time (On-site)

Position Summary

The Temple Daily Telegram is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support daily financial operations in Accounts Receivable, and general administrative and customer service duties. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting internal departments, and assisting customers, advertisers, and vendors with friendly, professional service.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable

Generate customer invoices for advertising and commercial print services
Post customer payments (checks, online payments, walk-ins)
Reconcile Accounts Receivable Aging report and assist with collections for past-due balances

Clerical & General Accounting

Perform data entry, filing, and document preparation to support the Finance Department.
Assist with month-end closing, account reconciliations, and report preparation
Maintain organized digital and physical financial records
Support daily office operations as needed

Customer Service

Assist readers, advertisers, and vendors in person, by phone, and by email.
Answer billing questions, take payments, and provide account updates
Provide courteous, timely assistance to internal departments including Advertising, Circulation, Production, and Editorial

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Accounting preferred
1–3 years of related experience
Experience with accounting software
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general office systems
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Reliable, professional, and able to work independently as well as part of a team

Work Environment

On-site office environment at the Temple Daily Telegram offices
Interaction with customers, advertisers, community partners, and internal teams
Occasional lifting of files or office supplies (up to 20 lbs)
Fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
