The Lead Data Architect works with the Chief Enterprise Architect and stakeholders from various business units and related third parties to analyze, capture and define data requirements, guide integration and control of data assets, and align data investments with business strategies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to interact professionally at all levels, including among executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
- Strong understanding of the following standards:
- Data Reference Model (DRM) within in a Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA), DoDAF, TOGAF or Zachman framework,
- ISO 11179 metadata registry,
- Development of Enterprise Naming Standards
- IE or IDEF1X modeling notation
- Relational and Dimensional Modeling techniques
- Assist with the identification of appropriate stakeholders impacted by the current data management strategy.
- Elicit data requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, and surveys.
- Strong experience in Data Modeling (i.e. Forward/Reverse Engineering) and DBMS development activities.
- Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from their underlying, true needs.
- Lead data architecture-related tasks such as:
- Design/Revise conceptual data model business requirements.
- Design logical and physical data models (Enterprise/Application).
- Create documents to explain data models (i.e. Data Dictionary, CRUD, ETL Mappings).
- Conduct data model walkthroughs and accompanying documentation with technical architects, developers and business users.
- Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Work independently and with other team members (i.e. project manager, business analysts, database administrators, developers, etc.) to define project scope, concepts, deliverables and timelines.
- Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational data requirements.
- Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline required; 5+ yrs of enterprise architecture and data architecture experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience working in an IT consulting environment across various industries and project types is preferred. MBA or Masters is also desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Project Management (PM) practices required.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with one or more data modeling tools: CA ERWIN Data Modeler/Model Manager, Embarcadero or Sybase PowerDesigner.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following areas - Desirable.
- Enterprise Content Management (ECM).
- Records Management (i.e. NARA, DoD Standard 5015.2).
- Federal Privacy Regulations (FISMA, NIST, OMB, HIPAA).
- National Information Exchange Model (NIEM)
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).
