Position Overview

Location: Albuquerque, NM / Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center
Work Arrangement: Onsite / In-Office with limited remote flexibility
Compensation: $75,000 - $170,000 annually, based on experience, technical depth, and clearance status
Experience Level: Intermediate to Senior-Level
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizen required
Security Clearance: Active DoD clearance strongly preferred. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. DoD security clearance within the first year of employment.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Model-Based Systems Engineer to support mission-focused systems engineering, digital engineering, architecture modeling, and decision-support initiatives for defense programs.
This role is focused on applying and expanding experience across Model-Based Systems Engineering, systems architecture, SysML modeling, systems integration, requirements traceability, complex systems analysis, and technical documentation.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, innovative, self-directed, and comfortable working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment. This position supports the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico and requires regular onsite collaboration with Government stakeholders, systems engineers, software teams, data teams, and technical leadership.
Candidates with active DoD clearances are strongly preferred. Strong U.S. citizen candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a clearance may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
MBSE Model Development & Lifecycle Support
- Support the development, configuration management, maintenance, and enhancement of MBSE artifacts across multiple baselines
- Develop and maintain SysML models, model interfaces, architecture artifacts, and modeling tool updates
- Support the full lifecycle of product and systems development, including architecture, design, integration, test, acceptance, and field support
- Maintain model quality, consistency, traceability, and alignment with stakeholder needs
- Support defect resolution, model enhancements, and updates to evolving system baselines
- Help drive model taxonomy, ontology, and modeling standards in coordination with stakeholders
Systems Engineering & Architecture
- Translate customer needs, mission objectives, technical requirements, and future goals into model-based engineering approaches
- Plan, design, develop, test, and integrate complex systems solutions
- Support analysis of systems-of-systems, architecture models, interfaces, dependencies, risks, and capability gaps
- Assist with trade-off analysis, gap analysis, mission assurance analysis, and technical assessments
- Support management of end-to-end use cases with traceability across stakeholders, requirements, models, interfaces, and delivered capabilities
- Collaborate with engineering teams to align systems models with architecture, data, software, and operational workflows
Stakeholder & Government Support
- Support stakeholder communications, responses to taskers, Integrated Product Teams, technical briefings, and customer-facing reviews
- Assist with preparing status reports, technical assessments, model summaries, and knowledge-transfer materials for Government clients
- Participate in technical discussions with Government stakeholders, engineering teams, and external organizations
- Communicate technical concepts clearly through presentations, documentation, and working sessions
- Support compliance-related artifact generation and mission assurance risk identification
Data, Analysis & Technical Artifacts
- Support data engineering activities including estimation, planning, scheduling, execution, and documentation
- Develop and maintain data science artifacts, architecture artifacts, and supporting technical documentation
- Support data profiling, transformation, modeling, and analysis activities where required
- Assist with verification, validation, design analysis, and decision-support activities
- Support engineering activities for proposals, technical assessments, and solution planning
Mentoring & Team Contribution
- Organize work activities and contribute to team planning, execution, and delivery
- Mentor teammates and clients in the development and maintenance of MBSE model artifacts
- Support peer reviews of models, architecture documentation, requirements, and technical artifacts
- Help improve MBSE practices, documentation quality, modeling discipline, and engineering workflows
- Work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment with systems engineers, software engineers, data engineers, architects, analysts, and Government stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. DoD security clearance within the first year of employment
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience with product development, systems engineering, systems integration, architecture development, or related technical projects
- Industry experience in Model-Based Engineering, including one or more of:
- MBE
- MBSE
- MDA
- MDD
- MDE
- Experience developing or maintaining systems models, architecture artifacts, model interfaces, or requirements traceability
- Demonstrated programming experience in an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C#, or C++
- Strong verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills
- Experience developing and delivering technical presentations
- Referenceable project-based experience in a collaborative team environment
- Ability and willingness to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM supporting AFNWC
Preferred Experience
- Active DoD clearance
- Experience with the practical application of UML or SysML modeling
- Familiarity with MBSE tools such as:
- Sparx Enterprise Architect
- Cameo Systems Modeler
- Rational Rhapsody
- Experience working on Air Force, DoD, national security, aerospace, or mission-focused technology programs
- Experience with systems-of-systems, architecture modeling, complex systems analysis, or decision-support environments
- Experience with data profiling, data transformation, data modeling, or technical data analysis
- Experience authoring database queries using SQL
- Ability to apply commercial engineering, software, data, or modeling experience to the military and defense domain
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, dynamic team environment
Additional Beneficial Experience
