We are seeking a technically capable, customer-focused Sales Engineer to help grow and manage customer relationships while ensuring that quoted and awarded work is aligned with our manufacturing capabilities, quality standards, delivery expectations, and profitability goals.
This role may be remote, but the successful candidate must be willing to spend approximately one to two weeks per quarter at our Fulton, New York facility. Regular onsite time is essential to develop a strong understanding of our equipment, processes, people, products, services, and manufacturing capabilities.
Position Summary
The Sales Engineer / Technical Account Manager serves as the connection between customers, sales, estimating, engineering, quality, and operations. This person will manage customer opportunities from initial discovery and request for quotation through order execution, delivery, and ongoing account development.
The ideal candidate understands technical drawings, machining and fabrication processes, pricing drivers, manufacturing lead times, and the importance of balancing customer satisfaction with company profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage relationships with assigned existing and prospective customers from initial opportunity through post-delivery support.
- Respond to customer RFQs, technical questions, commercial inquiries, and order-related concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, routings, and RFQ packages for completeness, manufacturability, quality requirements, and commercial risk.
- Assist with estimating machined components, fabricated components, assemblies, repairs, and engineered solutions.
- Analyze pricing, margins, capacity, material requirements, subcontracting needs, and delivery expectations to support profitable quoting and order decisions.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, conflicting requirements, or compliance concerns
- Coordinate resolution of technical or commercial discrepancies with customers before production begins.
- Support the transfer of awarded work from quotation to production, ensuring customer requirements, routings, quality documentation, and delivery commitments are accurately communicated internally.
- Review ERP reports and customer order status to monitor on-time performance, open orders, quoting activity, backlog, and account trends.
- Work with operations and customer service to proactively communicate schedule changes, delivery risks, quality concerns, and recovery plans.
- Establish and monitor customer satisfaction metrics, including on-time delivery, responsiveness, quote turnaround time, quality performance, repeat business, and customer feedback.
- Analyze customer portfolios to identify new opportunities
- Investigate new markets, industries, sales channels, and strategic account opportunities that align with NET & Die’s capabilities.
- Coordinate product development, design-for-manufacturability discussions, prototype work, and process improvement opportunities with customers and internal teams.
- Participate in customer visits, facility tours, sales calls, technical reviews, trade shows, and business development activities as needed.
- Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, quote, and account information within company systems.
- Represent NET & Die professionally and build trust through technical competence, responsiveness, follow through, and a solutions oriented approach.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field; equivalent technical education and directly relevant manufacturing experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, estimating, manufacturing engineering, project management, or account management within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with CNC machining, fabrication, assemblies, industrial components, or other manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, bills of material, and customer quality requirements.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes
- Strong commercial judgment and the ability to balance customer needs with company profitability and operational capacity.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and customer communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple RFQs, accounts, priorities, and deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while maintaining close communication with onsite teams.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, ERP systems, and reporting tools.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% to NET & Die in Fulton, New York approximately one to two weeks per quarter, customer sites when needed and to trade shows mainly in the northeast.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with job shop or make-to-order manufacturing.
- Experience quoting machined parts, weldments, repairs, or fabricated assemblies.
- Familiarity with quality management systems
- Experience using ERP systems
- Existing relationships within industrial manufacturing, pumps, compressors, utilities, material processing, transportation, defense, or similar markets.
- Experience developing sales plans, account strategies, customer scorecards, or customer satisfaction programs.
- Experience evaluating manufacturability, production routing, lead times, material requirements, and pricing considerations.
- Experience with CRM tools

Compensation
Base salary: $80,000–$120,000 annually, depending on relevant manufacturing, technical sales, estimating, and account-management experience.
A performance-based incentive or commission plan will be available and tied to factors such as profitable revenue growth, new business development, customer retention, quote conversion, and margin performance.
