Full Job Description

About the Role

TFC is seeking a motivated and analytical Staff Auditor to support federal auditing and consulting engagements. This entry-level role provides analytical and program support across financial, performance, and compliance engagements.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in developing expertise in government auditing standards, internal controls, and financial operations. This role offers the opportunity to build foundational consulting skills while contributing to meaningful federal initiatives.

This position supports federal government contracts and requires U.S. Citizenship. Work location is client-dictated and may include on-site work at locations such as Navy Yard and Tysons Corner, with potential for limited hybrid flexibility. Candidates must be able to work in person as required by the client and may be required to relocate to the Rockville, MD area prior to starting.

Key Responsibilities

Support financial, performance, recovery, transportation, and contract audit engagements.
Assist in conducting compliance assessments related to financial statements, financial information, and internal controls.
Analyze relevant data and information to identify trends, discrepancies, and potential risks.
Conduct research, distill findings, and develop reports and supporting documentation.
Assist with the completion of work plan activities within project scope and budget.
Support the development of project deliverables, including reports, presentations, and client documentation.
Apply consulting tools and methodologies to support program management activities and engagement objectives.
Participate in quality assurance practices to ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation and deliverables.
Support organizational performance improvement efforts, including accounting system reviews, financial statement preparation, and budget analysis.
Communicate effectively with engagement team members and contribute as an analytical resource on projects.
Assist in performing control and substantive testing over account balances and transactions.
Document audit procedures performed and support the identification and remediation of control deficiencies.
Prepare audit analyses, business process narratives, and supporting audit documentation in accordance with GAGAS.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience in auditing, accounting, finance, or data analysis is a plus.
Foundational understanding of financial statements and internal controls.
Familiarity with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) or other audit frameworks is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; experience with data analytics tools is a plus.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
Experience supporting federal clients, federal document production, or proposal support is a plus.
Prior exposure to Department of Defense (DoD) environments is preferred.

Preferred Certifications

Candidates may hold or be pursuing one or more of the following certifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)
Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM)
Project Management Professional (PMP)
