Build the Future with Design Drywall West

Are you passionate about construction, numbers, and delivering accurate project estimates? Design Drywall West, a trusted leader in Arizona's construction industry for nearly 50 years, is seeking a Painting Estimator to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys analyzing project costs, collaborating with industry partners, and contributing to the success of commercial construction projects throughout the Southwest.

As a Painting Estimator, you will play a critical role in securing and delivering successful projects by developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial painting scopes.

What You'll Do

Cost Estimating & Bid Development

Prepare accurate and detailed painting estimates for commercial construction projects, tenant improvements, and build-outs.
Analyze project documents, plans, specifications, and bid packages to determine labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.
Review and respond to RFPs, RFQs, and bid invitations.
Prepare and submit RFIs and proactively follow up to obtain required information.
Identify project risks, scope gaps, and cost-saving opportunities.

Bid & Estimating Process Management

Track, manage, and communicate bid status throughout the estimating cycle.
Maintain organized estimating records and project cost history.
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality control across all estimates.
Collaborate with operations, finance, project management, and field teams to support project pricing and planning.

Vendor & Market Analysis

Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and labor resources across Arizona, California, and Texas.
Monitor market conditions and communicate trends affecting labor, material, and construction costs.
Maintain a database of qualified subcontractors, suppliers, and labor resources.

Project Review & Analysis

Review project plans and participate in cost review meetings.
Conduct post-project analyses to compare estimated versus actual costs and improve future estimating accuracy.
Support continuous improvement initiatives for estimating processes and best practices.

How You'll Spend Your Time

50% – Estimating & Bid Preparation

Developing detailed painting estimates.
Managing estimating workflow and bid tracking.
Reviewing project documents and responding to bid opportunities.
Preparing and managing RFIs.

30% – Supplier & Resource Coordination

Obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Tracking material and labor market trends.
Developing resource networks throughout Arizona, California, and Texas.
Maintaining prequalified vendor and labor databases.

20% – Project Analysis & Validation

Reviewing project plans and conducting cost reviews.
Performing post-construction estimate validation and analysis.
Identifying opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of experience using On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and Quick Bid software.
Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous field experience as a painter.
Experience with job costing and revenue recognition.
Understanding of commercial construction processes and estimating practices.
Experience identifying, documenting, improving, and automating business processes.
