POSITION SUMMARY:
The Executive Director – Elementary Academics (Design) provides executive-level leadership in the design, alignment, and continuous improvement of the district’s elementary instructional system to ensure all students have access to rigorous, standards-aligned, and equitable learning experiences. This position operationalizes the instructional vision established by the District and Chief Academic Officer of Design by leading the development and implementation of coherent curriculum frameworks, instructional models, assessment systems, intervention structures, and professional learning across all elementary grade levels and content areas.
The Executive Director – Elementary Academics (Design) supervises elementary curriculum/content coordinators and program leaders to ensure alignment, fidelity, and consistency in the execution of district instructional expectations. In collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer – Design, this role ensures systemwide coherence across curriculum, instruction, assessment, and educator development, while advancing the district’s strategic priorities for student achievement and instructional excellence. The Executive Director – Elementary Academics (Design) also serves as a liaison and spokesperson for elementary academic initiatives. Attends Board meetings and work sessions as required and communicates academic program information to stakeholders and community partners. This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer – Design.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides strategic leadership, in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer – Design, for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of district curriculum frameworks, instructional models, and rigorous, standards-aligned resources. Leads and supports content coordinators and program leaders in the design, organization, and accessibility of curriculum resources, instructional materials, assessments, intervention supports, and professional learning systems to ensure coherence across all elementary schools.
Ensures the development of instructional practices that support high levels of teaching and learning across the district. Oversees the design of instructional frameworks, curriculum resources, and intervention systems that provide equitable access and academic support for all learners, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, gifted learners, and students requiring additional academic interventions. Develops implementation and fidelity-monitoring tools to assess alignment with district instructional priorities, academic expectations, and evidence-based instructional practices.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates curriculum and instructional staff, including curriculum/content coordinators and program leaders, to ensure effective implementation of district instructional priorities. Provides leadership for the design and continuous improvement of elementary instructional systems, ensuring alignment with district expectations. Monitors and evaluates staff performance to ensure accountability, effectiveness, and high-quality execution of instructional initiatives. Leads and manages the planning, coordination, and design of large-scale and cross-departmental academic projects aligned to district goals.
Ensures alignment and coherence across curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention systems, and professional learning. Eliminates fragmentation by coordinating cross-content and cross-program collaboration. Supports vertical and horizontal alignment of standards, instructional priorities, and student learning experiences across grade levels and programs. Monitors systemic implementation among the Design team to ensure consistency and unified vision with the district instructional frameworks and expectations. Collaborates with the Executive Director of Secondary Academics (Design) and the Divisions of Academic Implementation and Academic Support for K-12 alignment.
Oversees the design of high-quality professional learning aligned to district instructional priorities, curriculum frameworks, and instructional materials. Designs systems to monitor the effectiveness and impact of professional learning on instructional practice and student outcomes. Supports the development of instructional leadership capacity among curriculum coordinators, coaches, and teacher leaders through coaching, collaboration, and structured professional growth systems. Ensures communication is clear, timely, aligned, and supports the needs of the targeted audience.
Oversees the development and refinement of common assessments, progress-monitoring tools, and instructional data systems in collaboration with district assessment and accountability teams. Uses student achievement and subgroup performance data to identify instructional gaps and inform curriculum and program improvements. Supports the development and dissemination of data-informed instructional guidance and improvement strategies for schools.
Directs the review, vetting, and approval of curriculum resources, instructional materials, and academic programs to ensure alignment with district priorities, standards, and instructional frameworks. Collaborates with Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Accountability teams to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional initiatives through stakeholder feedback and data analysis. Reviews, updates, and ensures alignment of district policies and procedures in response to new laws, regulations, and district decisions to ensure compliance and instructional coherence. Ensures communication from the District office is clear, timely, aligned, and supports the needs of the targeted audience.
Performs other duties as assigned in support of district instructional priorities and the mission of Clayton County Public Schools.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree required; concentration in an education-related field such as curriculum, instruction, a content area, and/or educational leadership preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in teaching, learning, and assessment required. Experience applying evidence-based research to support high-quality instructional practices and leading large-scale curriculum design and assessment initiatives preferred.
Position has primary responsibility for the long-range future of the Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) and affects operation beyond the scope of CCPS.
Valid, renewable Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification at Level 5 or higher required. Educational Leadership certification preferred.
Highly Complex: Supervisor is available to review established departmental and/or organizational objectives. Independent judgment is required to recommend departmental or organizational objectives.

NOTE: This is a grade 33, 225 day position that pays one starting salary.
