Full Job Description

Manufacturing Controller

Position Summary

Industrial Screen & Maintenance (ISM) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Manufacturing Controller to oversee the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, cash management, and financial planning processes.

The Controller will serve as the senior accounting professional within the organization and will work directly with ownership to provide accurate financial information, strengthen internal controls, improve reporting, and support strategic decision-making.

This role requires both hands-on accounting experience and the ability to develop systems, processes, and accountability within a growing manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting

Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, including:
Profit & Loss Statement
Balance Sheet
Statement of Cash Flows
Review and reconcile all balance sheet accounts.
Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure GAAP-compliant accounting practices.
Coordinate year-end tax and audit activities with external CPA firms.

Cash Management & Financial Planning

Monitor daily cash position and liquidity.
Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts.
Assist ownership with budgeting and financial planning.
Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
Support banking relationships and financing activities.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

Establish and maintain strong internal accounting controls.
Develop procedures for:
Accounts Payable
Accounts Receivable
Payroll
Job Costing
Fixed Assets
Inventory
Ensure segregation of duties and accountability throughout accounting processes.
Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.

Manufacturing & Job Costing

Oversee job costing and project profitability reporting.
Monitor labor, material, and overhead allocations.
Review inventory valuation and inventory control processes.
Analyze manufacturing performance and margin trends.
Support operational decision-making through financial analysis.

Team Leadership

Supervise and mentor bookkeeping and administrative accounting staff.
Review reconciliations, journal entries, and accounting transactions.
Establish performance expectations and accountability measures.
Assist with training and process documentation.

Special Projects

Oversee accounting related to insurance claims, capital projects, and other complex transactions.
Assist ownership with acquisitions, financing opportunities, capital investments, and strategic initiatives.
Develop KPI dashboards and management reporting tools.

CPA, Tax & Regulatory Compliance

Serve as the primary accounting liaison with the Company’s CPA firm.
Coordinate preparation and timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
Ensure all required tax information is accurate, complete, and provided to external tax professionals on schedule.
Oversee compliance with sales and use tax requirements, payroll tax filings, personal property tax filings, and other regulatory reporting obligations.
Coordinate year-end tax planning and support annual tax provision activities.
Maintain schedules and supporting documentation required for audits, tax filings, and financial reviews.
Ensure all required reporting deadlines are met and proactively communicate any compliance risks to ownership.

Insurance & Risk Management

Serve as the primary accounting contact for the Company’s insurance providers and brokers.
Coordinate insurance renewals and provide required financial and payroll information.
Oversee accounting and documentation related to insurance claims and claim reimbursements.
Track claim activity, recoveries, deductibles, and related financial impacts.
Ensure timely submission of all required insurance reporting and documentation.
Assist ownership in evaluating insurance coverage, risk exposures, and claim trends.

Employee Benefits & Health Insurance Administration Support

Coordinate financial and reporting requirements related to employee benefit programs.
Serve as the accounting liaison with health insurance providers, brokers, retirement plan administrators, and payroll providers.
Ensure timely submission of enrollment, census, payroll, and financial data required by benefit providers.
Review benefit-related invoices and ensure accurate accounting treatment.
Support annual renewals, audits, compliance reporting, and employee benefit reconciliations.
Assist ownership with benefit cost analysis and budgeting.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Experience preparing monthly financial statements.
Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Experience managing accounting processes independently.

Preferred

Manufacturing accounting experience.
Cost accounting and job costing experience.
Controller or Assistant Controller experience.
CPA designation (preferred but not required).
Experience with inventory-intensive operations.
Experience supervising accounting staff.

Success Metrics

Within the first 12 months, the Controller will be expected to:

Deliver accurate monthly financial statements by the 10th–15th business day.
Ensure all bank and balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly.
Improve visibility into cash flow and working capital.
Strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
Establish meaningful financial reporting and KPI dashboards.
Improve job costing accuracy and profitability reporting.
Reduce financial and operational risk through improved oversight and accountability.

Competitive salary based on experience, qualifications, and manufacturing accounting background. Benefits package available.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
