Senior Forensic Accountant (Federal Fraud & Financial Investigations)

Location: Remote (U.S.)
Client Environment: Government Agency

About the Opportunity

Porta Strategies LLC is seeking a Senior Forensic Accountant to support a high-profile federal oversight initiative focused on detecting and preventing fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement of federal funds. The position supports investigative and analytic teams working with Offices of Inspectors General (OIGs), law enforcement partners, and federal oversight stakeholders on complex financial crime investigations involving large-scale federal benefit programs.

This role is ideal for a seasoned financial investigator with extensive experience tracing illicit proceeds, analyzing complex financial transactions, and supporting fraud, money laundering, and asset forfeiture investigations.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct forensic accounting examinations involving fraud, financial crimes, money laundering, and asset tracing.
Analyze bank records, financial statements, wire transfers, business records, and other financial evidence.
Trace the movement of funds through complex financial networks and identify indicators of criminal activity.
Support investigative teams with lead development, case-building efforts, and financial intelligence analysis.
Prepare clear, defensible financial analyses, exhibits, and reports suitable for investigative, administrative, civil, and criminal proceedings.
Utilize commercial and public-source databases to identify assets, beneficial ownership structures, business relationships, and financial networks.
Collaborate with investigative analysts, data scientists, and law enforcement stakeholders.
Develop presentations and visualizations that communicate complex financial findings to non-technical audiences.
Support investigations involving federal benefit programs and related fraud schemes.
Maintain documentation and work products consistent with federal investigative and evidentiary standards.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience supporting complex financial analyses involving fraud proceeds tracing.
Minimum 5 years of specialized experience in financial investigations with emphasis on:
Money laundering investigations
Asset forfeiture
Financial crime analysis
Minimum 5 years of forensic accounting experience, including tracing and analysis of funds and bank records.
Experience supporting large-scale forensic accounting engagements involving fraud investigations, criminal matters, or civil litigation.
Strong knowledge of current financial investigative techniques and methodologies.
Expert proficiency with:
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prepare high-quality reports and present findings to senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting federal law enforcement agencies, Offices of Inspectors General, or related oversight organizations.
Experience with federal benefit programs such as PPP, EIDL, RRF, SVOG, or similar large-scale government assistance programs.
Experience supporting investigations involving pandemic relief or emergency assistance funding.
Knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, typologies, and investigative procedures.

Certifications

One or more of the following certifications is required:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE/ACFE)
Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS/ACAMS)

Additional specialized training in money laundering, fraud, or federal benefit programs is highly desirable.
