About the Role

As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will bridge the gap between initial concept and full-scale production for complex, high-stakes systems. You will utilize your expertise in mechanical architecture and 3D modeling to solve physical challenges, ensuring that innovative technology is transformed into reliable, field-ready hardware.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end development of mechanical assemblies, from initial CAD concepts to production-ready documentation.
Optimize designs for thermal management, ruggedization, and environmental durability to meet rigorous performance standards.
Create detailed technical drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions using SolidWorks to ensure manufacturing precision.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to integrate complex systems seamlessly.
Execute rapid prototyping and hands-on testing to validate structural integrity, fit, and functional reliability.
Drive design improvements by analyzing failure modes and implementing evidence-based solutions.
Partner with machinists and suppliers to refine manufacturing processes, reducing lead times and production costs.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
3+ years of experience in product development, prototyping, or hardware manufacturing.
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks for complex 3D modeling and assembly design.
Demonstrated ability to apply GD&T and tolerance analysis to production-quality drawings.
Hands-on experience with fabrication tools, inspection equipment, and shop-floor troubleshooting.

Preferred Skills

Background in defense, aerospace, or robotics environments with exposure to regulated quality systems.
Experience designing ruggedized enclosures, cable routing, or EMI-shielded systems.
Proven track record of taking hardware projects from initial prototype through to mass production.
Strong understanding of diverse manufacturing methods, including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication.
Ability to manage small-scale engineering projects independently while maintaining high technical rigor.
