Full Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for a self-motivated Quantitative Hedge Fund Research Analyst to help develop internal research, trading tools, and backtested strategies for a hedge fund trading environment.

This role sits at the intersection of quantitative research, software engineering, market analysis, and execution trading. You will work directly with senior portfolio managers and execution traders to turn market ideas into tested research, usable software tools, and practical trading applications.

This is a high-ownership role. You may be given a single-paragraph trading or research thesis and be expected to independently research, test, build, analyze, and present a finished product.

Responsibilities

Build and improve internal software tools used by execution traders and portfolio managers
Develop backtested studies based on trading ideas proposed by senior portfolio managers
Analyze historical market data to identify asymmetric trading opportunities
Convert research ideas into usable dashboards, alerts, scripts, models, or internal software features
Clean, validate, and structure financial datasets for research and trading use
Evaluate trading strategies across different market regimes, timeframes, and risk conditions
Work directly with traders and portfolio managers to understand problems and deliver practical solutions
Document research methodology, assumptions, limitations, and results clearly
Assist with execution trading workflows as research is converted into live trading opportunities

Ideal Candidate

We are more interested in the right candidate than someone with a long career in finance. Interest in financial markets is required, but proprietary trading mechanics can be trained.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, technically strong, independent, and comfortable working in an entrepreneurial hedge fund environment with limited hand-holding.

This role is approximately:

One-third quantitative research and statistical analysis
One-third software engineering and tool development
One-third execution trading and market application

Required Qualifications

Strong software engineering ability
Experience with agentic coding tools and AI-assisted development workflows
Strong understanding of statistics, probability, and data analysis
Ability to work independently from an open-ended research thesis
Genuine interest in financial markets, trading, hedge funds, and market structure
Strong attention to detail and ability to validate your own work
Ability to communicate research findings clearly and practically
Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities may shift with market conditions

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with data analysis, statistical modeling, backtesting, or research-oriented software development
Experience working with financial market data
Experience building backtests, dashboards, alerts, screeners, or internal trading tools
Familiarity with SQL, APIs, Git, or cloud-based development workflows
Familiarity with Bloomberg, market data platforms, broker/execution systems, or trading analytics tools
Prior trading, investing, quantitative research, or hedge fund experience
Personal projects, GitHub, research papers, backtests, or examples of independently built tools

Compensation

Compensation includes a competitive base salary and performance-based upside.

As you progress with the company, you may be given your own trading book to execute on research developed internally, as well as the firm’s core strategies. Compensation may include a split of profits generated from your trading book.
