Full Job Description

General Description

The UXO Technician III (UXO III) is the most senior technical qualification level in the Unexploded Ordnance (UXO)/Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)-related civilian workforce, typically achieved through extensive field experience, formal training (e.g., DoD EOD-equivalent certification, prior military EOD/UXO background), and demonstrated leadership on munitions response and demilitarization projects. When assigned as Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) or Site Safety Manager on a demilitarization contract, the UXO III holds ultimate on-site authority and responsibility for explosives safety, occupational safety, and health compliance across all site operations involving the storage, handling, processing, and destruction of military munitions, explosives, and energetics.

This role combines deep technical UXO/EOD expertise with formal safety-management authority, meaning the individual not only understands the hazards of demilitarization work at the technical level but also has the contractual and organizational authority to stop work, enforce procedures, and make binding safety determinations.

Core ResponsibilitiesExplosives Safety Management

Serve as the senior technical authority for explosives safety on site, ensuring compliance with DDESB (Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board) standards, DoD 4145.26-M (Contractor's Safety Manual), and applicable state/federal regulations
Develop, implement, and enforce Explosives Site Plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for demilitarization processes
Establish and maintain Net Explosive Weight (NEW) calculations and Quantity-Distance (Q-D) arcs for all operations, storage, and processing areas
Ensure proper segregation, compatibility grouping, and storage of munitions and energetic materials

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience in the defense industry related to Arms, Ammunition, & Explosives (AA&E) and/or prior military EOD experience preferred.

· Have demonstrated logistical and inventory management skills.

· Experience with workplace safety and explosives safety requirements and standards.

· Skilled with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)

· Must be a clear and concise communicator.

· Ability to quickly understand complex mechanical systems in order to provide maintenance personnel with tasks to prevent or fix equipment failures.

· Must be willing and able to work in an open air environment in various climates.
