Full Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW: Health Partners Management Group, Inc (HPMG) is a government contracting company in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. HPMG currently has a contract with the Federal Government. You would be a W-2 employee for HPMG and NOT a government employee.

POSITION SUMMARY: HPMG is seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes for inpatient facility and professional services. This role supports documentation review, coding compliance, DRG accuracy, and communication with clinical staff to ensure complete and accurate coding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifier, and E&M codes based on medical record documentation
Ensure accurate DRG assignment for inpatient stays
Review inpatient records for completeness, accuracy, and coding compliance
Research and resolve coding edit failures in MHS GENESIS and related systems
Identify documentation discrepancies and submit compliant provider queries when needed
Support coding audits, special studies, and internal and external reporting
Educate providers and staff on coding guidelines and documentation requirements
Maintain productivity, quality, timeliness, and compliance standards

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

5+ years of medical inpatient hospital coding and/or auditing experience across at least two medical, surgical, or ancillary specialties within the past 10 years OR;
3+ years of medical coding or auditing experience in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF)
At least 1 year of documented experience in the specialty

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Military health system coding experience
Experience with MHS GENESIS, 3M Encompass 360, JLV, AHLTA, CHCS, CCE, and related systems
Experience supporting provider documentation improvement and coding compliance

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Current certification in one of the following:

RHIT
RHIA
CCS
COC
CIC

Strong knowledge of:

ICD-10-CM
ICD-10-PCS
CPT
HCPCS
DRGs
Medical terminology
Anatomy and physiology
Reimbursement methodologies
Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a remote position. The role is primarily sedentary and may require extended time working on a computer and reviewing electronic medical records.
