Casualty Construction Defect Adjuster

Pacific-Mountain Time Zone boundary

Position Summary

The Casualty Construction Defect Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving complex construction defect and casualty claims on behalf of insurance carriers, self-insured entities, and third-party administrators. This position requires extensive knowledge of construction practices, liability analysis, damage assessment, and claims handling procedures. The adjuster will work closely with insureds, attorneys, contractors, engineers, experts, and carriers to facilitate timely and equitable claim resolution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Investigate construction defects and casualty claims involving residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties.

Analyze claim facts, liability exposure, and damages to determine claim disposition.

Conduct recorded statements, interviews, and site inspections as necessary.

Review contracts, construction documents, engineering reports, expert findings, repair estimates, and legal filings.

Coordinate with attorneys, consultants, engineers, contractors, and other subject matter experts throughout the claim lifecycle.

Negotiate settlements with claimants, attorneys, insureds, and other involved parties.

Prepare comprehensive reports documenting investigation findings, liability assessments, damages evaluations, and settlement recommendations.

Maintain compliance with carrier-specific service standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

Effectively manage a caseload of complex claims while meeting established deadlines and performance expectations.

Participate in client meetings, claim reviews, mediations, and settlement conferences as required.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and claims experience.

· Minimum of 5 years of casualty claims handling experience, with significant exposure to construction defect claims.

· Strong understanding of construction methods, building systems, construction contracts, and defect-related litigation.

· Knowledge of commercial general liability (CGL) policies and related coverage issues.

· Experience handling complex, high-exposure, and litigated claims.

· Strong investigative, analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

· Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

· Proficiency with claims management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and related technology platforms.

· Property Estimating Experience or Equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

· Adjuster licensing in applicable jurisdictions.

· Associate in Claims (AIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Senior Claims Law Associate (SCLA), or other industry-related designations.

· Experience working with insurance carriers, independent adjusting firms, or third-party administrators.

Physical Requirements

· Client meetings, mediations, and claim-related activities.

· Ability to work in both office and field environments.

· Ability to sit, stand, walk, and utilize standard office equipment for extended periods.
