Full Job Description

Revenue Recovery Group (RRG) is seeking a highly motivated, growth-driven professional to join our team. As an auditor, you will work as part of a team to conduct tax audits on behalf of our state and local government clients. Our audits focus primarily on sales & use tax, but may also include hotel occupancy tax, occupational license tax, franchise fees, and various other taxes or fees. Auditors can work remotely from anywhere in the US (95% of the work will be done remotely with occasional travel).

Duties & Responsibilities

Schedule, plan and perform audits under the direction of the Team Lead and Audit Manager
Communicate regularly and professionally with taxpayers and their representatives (e.g., accountants, attorneys)
Conduct audits in accordance with internal policies and procedures
Analyze financial records including, but not limited to, journals, ledgers, financial statements, invoices, sales agreements and tax returns for compliance
Prepare detailed reports and work papers that clearly document and substantiate audit findings
Present audit results to taxpayers, providing clear explanations of the procedures, relevant tax laws and policies
Maintain detailed records of audit activities, time spent and communications
Maintain strict confidentiality of taxpayer information at all times
Research and identify potential audit candidates
Stay informed on current state and local sales & use tax laws, regulations, and rate changes
Assist in the training and mentoring of new audit staff as needed
Participation in special projects
Perform additional duties as assigned
Occasional travel as required

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Major coursework in accounting, finance, data analytics, business administration or related analytical field is preferred
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required, including experience with pivot tables, advanced formulas and data manipulation
Experience with a state or local revenue department, compliance audits, audit defense or corporate accounting is preferred
Experience with data analytics or audit sampling techniques a plus

Qualifications

Self-starter with ability to work independently from home
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
Thrives in a collaborative team environment

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range is $55,000 - $70,000 annually, varying depending on experience.
Profit-sharing incentive plan (annual bonuses for eligible employees on top of base salary)
