Rural Nevada Counseling (RNC)

Licensed Mental Health Counselor Intern (LMHC/I)

Job Description and Profile

The Licensed Mental Health Counselor/Intern (LMHC/I) provides exemplary outpatient mental health services to patients under the supervision of the Clinical Director, or the Clinical Supervisor of Rural Nevada Counseling (RNC); the Agency. The LMHC/I is Licensed with the State of Nevada Board of Examiners as an Intern and possess an Intern Number and is in good standing with the Board. The LMHC/I will gain practical work experience in the area of counseling, behavioral health, addictions and social human services. This intern position supports the promotion of individual growth in the patients of RNC through Outreach, Assessment, Connection, Case Management and Accountability. The LMHC/I provides exemplary psychotherapeutic services within their scope of practice to all of RNC’s patients and their families. The LMHC/I is a member of the interdisciplinary team supporting the Agency’s treatment program and philosophy and assures the deliverance of quality treatment to the patients and their families. The LMHC/I provides comprehensive mental health services for the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of RNC’s patients. The LMHC/I is knowledgeable in human behavior performance and understands individual differences in abilities, personality, interests, learning, and motivation. The LMHC/I is familiar with psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Under direct supervision of the Clinical Director, or the Clinical Supervisor of RNC, the LMHC/I actively participates as a member of the clinical team and assists in creating and implementing behavioral health treatment plans and consults with doctors, case managers and nursing staff as needed to provide quality patient care. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director or the Clinical Supervisor, the LMHC/I participates in the formulation of patient’s treatment plans, including the establishment of treatment goals and objectives based on the Differential Diagnosis, with supporting documentation using The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Patient Placement Criteria (PPC), and the Level of Care Utilization System (LOCUS), and the Children’s Uniform Mental Health Assessment (CUMHA).

Reports Directly to: Clinical Director and Site Office Manager

Duties and Responsibilities under Clinical Supervision

Skills and Competencies

Document all patient contacts and complete assessments within 48 hours
Consult with doctors, case managers, and nursing staff as needed to provide quality patient care
Prepare professional-patient assessments to include differential diagnoses with supporting documentation using DSM-V5, ASAM PPC, LOCUS, and CUMHA criterion, following the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) policies
Participates in the formation of Patients’ treatment plans, including the establishment of treatment goals and objectives based on the Differential Diagnosis
Provides evidence-based curriculum group therapies as well as conducting educational and other didactic groups as assigned
Provide evidence-based therapeutic individual sessions
Attends required training and meetings as scheduled
When assigned, answers the Agency Crisis Line and work as member of the team to de-escalate crisis within three hours of the first contact and follow up within 24 hours with the patient in-person if a telemed crisis contact was conducted
Knowledgeable in the needs of patients and the ASAM and LOCUS levels of care and provide effective treatment
Provide secure Zoom sessions and groups as needed
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization, including coworkers, superiors, subordinates, patients, vendors, and associations
Exemplary customer service skills, including ability to create positive first impressions and develop partnerships internally and externally
Excellent interpersonal and strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, including strong attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents and information
Proficiency in technology especially in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Email, Calendar, Office Word, and other software programs as required
Other duties, responsibilities, and assignments as needed

Education, Qualifications and Experience

At least 21 years of age
Citizen of the United States, or is lawfully entitled to remain and work in the United States
Pass State and Federal background checks
Pass any drug testing as required by the Agency
Drivers History Report with no major violations
Interns who have been approved by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners as Interns and possess an Intern Number and is in good standing with the Board as a Marriage and Family Therapist-Intern; Clinical Professional Counselor-Intern, or Licensed Social Worker Intern
Completed other education and training which is deemed equivalent by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners
