Job Title: Digital Communication and Design Specialist

Pay Range: $45,000.00 to $49,000.00
Summary:
The Digital Communications and Design Specialist will play a central role in establishing and promoting IYG’s brand identity and voice across communication channels. This role will be responsible for crafting and publishing dynamic digital content that embodies IYG’s brand, voice, and mission across multiple digital platforms and social media channels for all statewide centers. The specialist will be responsible for designing visual communication and graphics that prioritize IYG’s brand identity and core values. In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, the Specialist will implement social media and digital communication strategies that engage IYG’s diverse audiences, amplify advocacy efforts, and support LGBTQ+ young people and allies across the state. Other key duties include copywriting, copy editing, and website management. This individual will sit on special events committees and participate in creating and implementing visual assets for IYG’s events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Graphic Design (50%):
· Marketing: Create graphics, flyers, and posters for programs, services, development, events, social media, and other uses in collaboration with other departments
· Digital distribution: Distribute graphics digitally via social media, email, newsletters, website, etc.
· Brand voice development: Design custom graphics, illustrations, infographics, and other visual elements that align with IYG’s brand and values. Maintain consistent visual identity across all communication channels, ensuring brand coherence and appeal to our target audiences. Work with the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy to craft organizational policies and procedures that strengthen collaboration and empower staff to align with best practices and core values in their communication.
· Website management: Work with the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy to implement necessary website changes and updates via WordPress.
· Graphic storytelling: Create engaging multimedia assets, including animated graphics, branded templates, and short video clips, to enhance storytelling across platforms.
· Print design: Design branded print assets, including signage, literature, merchandise/apparel, reports, and tabling materials, as requested.
· Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and all locations to align messaging and visual communication with broader goals and IYG identity. Fulfill graphic design requests and communicate project progress as needed.
Social Media Oversight and Implementation (50%):
· Content creation: develop, design, and schedule creative, compelling content for IYG’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This will include creation and management of social media event pages.
· Brand voice development: create and refine IYG’s social media voice to be consistent with our organizational mission, values, and advocacy goals, ensuring a cohesive identity across all channels.
· Statewide coordination: manage and coordinate social media content across all statewide IYG centers, ensuring local events, programs, and initiatives are represented and promoted.
· Engagement and community building: actively monitor, engage, and respond to comments, messages, and tags, fostering a supportive and inclusive online community.
· Analytics and reporting: Track, analyze, and report on social media metrics, identifying trends and optimizing strategies to improve reach, engagement, and impact. Develop and implement campaigns in collaboration with the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy, other departments, locations, and event committees.
· Strategy and growth: Work with the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy to review effectiveness and reassess social media strategy. Work with the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy to craft organizational policies, procedures, and training that empower centers to take an active role in social media management while remaining aligned with best practices, IYG core values, legal compliance, and safety standards.
· Content calendar management: maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent and timely posting, aligned with key events, awareness days, and advocacy campaigns.
· Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and all locations to align messaging and integrate social media with broader advocacy, programming, fundraising, and community engagement goals.
· Event photography: Attend and support IYG events, both in Centers (statewide) and offsite, as needed. Provide event photography and documentation for use on social media and in visual communication, editing and managing these photos for future use.
· Intern management: Manage social media interns, providing training on IYG social media practices, mentorship in professional development, and oversight of their projects and posts.

REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field OR the equivalent work experience required.
· Two or more years of experience in graphic design, social media, and/or communications.
· Advanced working experience and understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and Canva, as well as all social media platforms.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Highly organized with strong planning and critical thinking skills.
· Outstanding communication skills with the ability to handle multiple lines of communication at once.
· Occasional travel and evening and weekend work required.
· Exemplary time management and organizational skills with the ability to multitask regularly.
· Must be able to self-start and self-manage as necessary – especially during busy seasons (Pride, Legislative Session, etc.) when the Sr. Director of Engagement and Advocacy is not immediately available.
· Must be able to collaborate with others and work independently as projects dictate.
· Strong commitment to IYG’s mission and values.
· Must demonstrate strong understanding of LGBTQ+ competency including appropriate language, awareness of issues and barriers facing the community, and history, as well as relevant current events; must keep awareness and competency to maintain IYG’s position as an LGBTQ+ thought and advancement leader across the state and nationwide.
· Must pass all background checks.
