Position Purpose
The Paraprofessional supports teachers and school staff in delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment for all students. This role assists in reinforcing academic concepts, supporting classroom instruction, and helping students access grade-level content through individualized support and scaffolding as directed by certificated staff.
The Paraprofessional provides direct support to students in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas to promote student success and engagement in the classroom. This includes working with individuals and small groups, implementing teacher-directed instructional strategies, and assisting students in developing independence, responsibility, and positive learning habits.
In addition to instructional support, the Paraprofessional assists with classroom and school-wide operations, including preparation of instructional materials, supervision of students, and support with classroom management routines. The role may also include supporting student supervision across various campus settings such as hallways, cafeteria, playground, arrival/dismissal, and other school environments.
The Paraprofessional also contributes to a positive school culture by supporting school-wide events, activities, and initiatives. This includes assisting with family engagement events, school celebrations, enrichment activities, and other campus programs while collaborating with teachers, administrators, and staff to support the overall mission and daily operations of the school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Paraprofessional plays a key role in supporting classroom instruction, student learning, behavior support, and overall school operations. This position works closely with teachers and school staff to ensure students receive the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support needed to be successful in the general education environment while contributing to a safe, structured, and positive school culture.
- Support classroom teachers in delivering instruction by reinforcing lessons, modeling skills, and assisting students with understanding academic content.
- Work with individual students and small groups to provide targeted academic support aligned to teacher direction and classroom objectives.
- Assist in implementing classroom routines, procedures, and behavior expectations to maintain a structured and productive learning environment.
- Support students in developing positive behavior, social skills, independence, and self-regulation strategies throughout the school day.
- Supervise students in a variety of settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, arrival/dismissal, and other school environments.
- Assist teachers with preparation, organization, and distribution of instructional materials, assignments, and classroom resources.
- Provide support during assessments, interventions, and enrichment activities as directed by certificated staff.
- Monitor and document student behavior and academic progress as requested and communicate observations to teachers and school staff.
- Support classroom management strategies by reinforcing positive behavior supports and implementing teacher-directed interventions.
- Assist with student transitions between activities, classrooms, and school settings to ensure safety and continuity of instruction.
- Participate in school-wide events, activities, and initiatives, including family engagement nights, celebrations, and school programs.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with school policies, procedures, and safety expectations at all times.

General Education Compliance
The Paraprofessional supports campus-wide compliance efforts by assisting teachers and staff in maintaining accurate student records, implementing required supports, and ensuring that documentation aligns with IEPs, 504 Plans, and district expectations. This role helps ensure that student data and services are consistently and accurately reflected across instructional and compliance systems.
- Assist teachers in organizing, maintaining, and updating student academic records, behavior documentation, and progress monitoring data in alignment with IEP and 504 requirements.
- Support the implementation of accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports by accurately following teacher direction and documenting student responses as needed.
- Help maintain organized student files and compliance-related documentation, ensuring materials are properly stored, labeled, and accessible to certificated staff.
- Assist in collecting and recording student data during instruction, interventions, and assessments to support accurate progress monitoring and reporting.
- Support ESS and EL documentation processes by helping ensure required materials, tracking tools, and instructional supports are accurately implemented and communicated to staff.

Family Communication and Collaboration
The Paraprofessional supports positive and professional communication between the school and families by reinforcing classroom messaging, assisting teachers with family engagement efforts, and helping ensure families are informed, supported, and connected to their child’s learning experience. This role contributes to a welcoming, solution-oriented school culture built on trust, respect, and consistency.
- Support teachers in communicating with families by reinforcing classroom updates, expectations, and instructional information as directed by certificated staff.
- Assist in sharing general school and classroom information with students and families in a professional, accurate, and consistent manner.
- Support family engagement activities, including conferences, school events, open houses, and other campus programs that strengthen school-home connections.
- Help reinforce communication between school and home regarding student behavior, academic progress, and daily classroom expectations under teacher guidance.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions with families, ensuring compliance with FERPA and school communication protocols.
- Assist staff in creating a welcoming environment for families during arrival, dismissal, and school events by providing support and customer service as needed.
- Support teachers and administrators in gathering and sharing general feedback or observations from families to strengthen student support and engagement.

Qualifications
Education
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Demonstrated experience working with children or in an educational, childcare, or support setting.
Preferred:
- Some college coursework in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or related field.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Education or a related discipline.
Licenses and Certifications
Required:
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card, maintained throughout employment.
- Ability and willingness to complete required district and school trainings related to student safety, confidentiality, and instructional support.
Preferred:
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Completion of paraprofessional training, substitute certification, or other education-related training programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Paraprofessional is expected to demonstrate foundational knowledge of instructional support practices, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively assist teachers in promoting student learning and positive behavior in a general education classroom. This role requires adaptability, communication skills, and the ability to support diverse student needs while contributing to a structured and effective learning environment.
- Basic knowledge of instructional support strategies and general education classroom practices that promote student learning and engagement.

Physical Requirements
The Paraprofessional position requires the ability to actively support students and staff across a variety of classroom and school environments. The role involves frequent movement, supervision, and hands-on support to ensure student safety, engagement, and access to learning throughout the school day.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and move throughout the school day to support instruction and student supervision.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25–50 pounds as needed for instructional materials, student support, and classroom activities.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, arrival/dismissal areas, and other school settings.
- Operate basic instructional and office technology, including computers, tablets, printers, and other classroom devices.
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written forms with students, teachers, administrators, and families.
- Maintain visual and auditory awareness to monitor student safety, behavior, and engagement in all assigned settings.
- Assist with student transitions between activities, classrooms, and school locations as directed by staff.
- Respond appropriately to routine school demands and student support needs in a calm, professional, and supportive manner.
Working Conditions
The Paraprofessional works in a dynamic and fast-paced school environment supporting classroom instruction, student supervision, and school-wide operations. This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to respond to a variety of instructional and behavioral situations throughout the school day while maintaining a positive and professional presence.
- Work is performed primarily in classroom and school-based environments, including hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other instructional areas.
- Frequent interaction with students, teachers, administrators, and families in a busy and active school setting.
- Exposure to a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and multiple simultaneous responsibilities.
- Regular movement throughout campus to support instruction, supervision, and student transitions between activities.
- Participation in school events, activities, and programs that may occur before school, after school, or during the school day.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during supervision duties such as arrival/dismissal, recess, or school activities.
- Ability to respond to changing student needs, behavioral situations, and instructional demands in a calm and professional manner.
