Position: Quality Control Manager
Location: Phoenix Metropolitan Area
Schedule: Monday through Saturday, flexible schedule with flexible hours, hours vary. Overtime, weekend work and nights are required
Base Pay Rate: Based on experience

Reports to: Senior Manager or as directed
Job Summary - The Quality Control Manager ensures accurate testing of raw materials from vendors prior to producing and delivering concrete, ensures accurate testing of produced concrete in the plastic state as well as the hardened state, ensures accurate testing of concrete cylinders and establishes and maintains good working relationships and communication with customers, co-workers, and management. Manages staff and maintains all records in regard to the quality department.
Job responsibilities
- Day to day performance of all concrete produced
Management and Leadership
- Ensuring all testing is done as per spec by technicians and self
- Ensure the technicians are scheduled to the appropriate jobs and times
- Coordinate lab activities including materials testing and trial batches
- Timecard, missed punch, PTO approvals
- Provides training to technical service staff along with plant personnel and operations in any field related to the performance of concrete, cement, supplementary cementitious materials, admixtures and/or any other concrete products
- Formulate and track Quality Control Department Goals
- Mentor and motivate staff
- Conduct 1 on 1’s with direct reports at a minimum once a month
- Conduct performance reviews for direct reports
- Coordinate with Operations if changes are needed
Field and Laboratory Testing
- Cylinders, Air Content, Unit Weight, Temperature, and Slump testing of concrete samples
- Hardened property testing
- Aggregate gradations, S.E’s, D.I.’s
- Frequent Set Time testing
- Frequent Trial Batch testing
- Quarterly cement testing program
Safety and Cleanliness
- Ensure company equipment and vehicles are kept clean
- Adhere to all company and jobsite safety standards
Customers Interaction
- Evaluating and reporting on customer issues
- Participates in project meetings with customers and their engineering staff regarding concrete deliveries, concrete performance, and the mix submittal process
Reporting, analyzing, and evaluation
- Evaluates test data
- Evaluates mix design performance. Works to optimize mix designs with optimal materials and operational plant constraints and capabilities Familiarization with construction, plans, documents and specifications
- Compiles, enters, and maintains this data in software used for performance monitoring and mix submittals
- Responsible for producing submittal package
Knowledge and Certifications
- Has a working knowledge of ASTM, ACI, Mag, and ADOT specifications relating to concrete and materials and testing
- Has a working knowledge of concrete admixtures, supplementary cementitious materials, and various aggregates and their impact on the performance of concrete mix designs
Verifi System
- Be a subject matter expert at all aspects of the Verifi system, including but not limited to how it works, failures, training of Techs and Drivers, reporting and KPI’s
External Relations
- Represents the company at industry functions and on relevant committees
- Responsible for all Material Certification submittals for the Company and outside customers as requested
- Responsible for being the liaison between the Company and outside testing labs. State Departments of Transportation, appropriate County and/or Cities, and independent labs are included

- Developing Relationships: Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with Field lab personnel, Engineers, Customers, and Inspectors
Requirements
- Must be able to pass company pre-employment screening process
- Valid driver’s license
- Completion of the Concrete Industry Management program or equivalent pre-employment of similar job
- Must be ACI certified Level 1 minimum
- A minimum of 5 years concrete industry experience preferred
- A Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory position preferred
- Must have excellent computer Skills and be able to use Quality Control Software (Quadrell) and strong understanding of Microsoft products
- Can be exposed to extremes of hot and cold weather conditions
- Can be exposed to loud and continuous noise
- Participate in company sponsored events
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned by management
Physical requirements - Including but not limited to:
- Climbing ladder up to 10 feet
- Bending
- Squatting, frequent lifting of extension chutes (up to 50 lbs.) above the shoulders
- Stretching
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possess a basic knowledge and understanding of technology including Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, Windows and the Jonel Suite of Products
- Skilled in Data Entry and Typing
- Capable of performing data entry with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills along with a customer focused philosophy
- Proficient with computers
- ACI Field Testing Certification preferred or able to obtain within the twelve months of hire
- Bilingual language with Spanish a plus
