Full Job Description

Summary

The Lead Instructor of the Steamfitting Program manages all aspects of the curriculum for apprenticeship training. This includes review, ongoing development and maintenance of curriculum, hands-on training equipment, managing assets and other program needs as identified. The Lead Instructor also manages the team of Full-time Instructors and organizes Part-time instructors who teach Day School classes. This is a teaching position.

Reports to: Steamfitting Program Coordinator

Status: Full-time Exempt, At-will, non-represented

Direct Reports: Full-time Instructors

Pay and benefits: $3,144.80 weekly

Vehicle: No

Onboarding Goals and Activities include:

30-, 60-and 90-day goals for new staff as designed by the Program Coordinator

Essential Functions include:

Teach one or more Day School groups per school year
Substitute as needed for Day School classes
Ensure that instructors have materials and tools available and organized prior to class
Supervise and manage Day School full-time instructors and substitutes
Organize and schedule Part-time Instructors who teach Day School Classes
Manage Day School class teaching schedule
Manage time off requests and timecards for full-time instructors
Lead full-time instructor team meetings
Monitor Day School instructor grade sheets of each class to ensure grades are accurate
Coordinate with Program Coordinator to develop and create curriculum, trainers, labs and other hands-on projects as needed
Understand and ensure compliance with COE, ACCE requirements
Attend related training courses and seminars (e.g. ITP)
Coordinate the maintenance of course syllabi with curriculum updates
Communicate curriculum updates with Outlying Leads
Provide assignments to Outlying Classes
Understand necessary apprentice licensing and certification requirements
Communicate with Program Coordinator regarding inventory and planning of materials

Additional Projects and Duties include:

Collaborate with Program Coordinator in planning vendor and outside trainings for apprentices
Fill-in for daily Person-In-Charge when asked; PIC’s stay on premises until the office closes at 4:30 to assist staff if needed
Other Duties and Activities will be assigned or updated as needed

Experience

Required Certifications, Licenses, Education and Skills:

5 + years' experience as a Journeyworker
1 + experience as a Foreman or General Foreman
Proficiency with of Office 365 programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Forms, PowerPoint, Blue Beam and others
Proficiency with other technology tools, including Teams and Zoom
Experience and comfort using iPads

Preferred Experience:

Current Class 5 Boiler License
Experience leading a complex project
10+ years' experience as a Journeyworker in the field, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
1+ years as a current or former instructor in the same or similar apprenticeship program
ITP Instructor Certification
Associate's degree or other professional certification related to the trade

Industry Knowledge that will be helpful:

Understanding of trade apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs

Environment

This position is on site and activity includes standing and speaking for several hours per day, sometimes seated work at a computer, walking, bending, and using tools, climbing ladders, work at floor level and above, sometimes on knees and other positions in the course of building trainers, climbing, pulling, occasionally using a forklift, and regularly using vision to inspect work product. Regularly lifting 50 lbs. The main campus where the job mostly takes place is large and flat; walking is required to get from each area of the building.
