ABOUT INSIGHT SCHOOLS OF CALIFORNIA:
Insight Schools of California (a network of three public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based-instruction to students in grades 9-12 in California. Insight Schools of California serves at-risk students. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to maintain daily attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete their coursework each day.

HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full Time: Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Salary Range: $64,910.16 - $117,194.86

We do participate in CalSTRS. Please contact your CalSTRS counselor about how employment with Insight Schools of California may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Job Description

Job Title: Insight Special Education Mentor

Reports To: Program Specialist

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Special Education

Overview:

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school mentors are part of a pioneering effort. Our mentors, therefore, need to share the School’s pioneering mission and approach.

Summary:
The Special Education Mentor trains and supervises education specialists in relation to schoolwide and special education programs, procedures, and policies. The Sped Mentor monitors compliancy and supports the team in meeting deadlines and requirements. The Sped Mentor also serves as a member of the Insight leadership team and works collaboratively with other leaders toward accomplishing school goals and promoting student achievement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Attend all Insight Professional Developments (Special Education and GE) virtually or in-person as required
Mentor and train Ed Specialist staff in understanding how to support students and provide services to ensure academic growth and support engagement
Train Education Specialists on Insight programs and job duties
Train Education Specialists on office document procedures
Train and support Education Specialists on Progress Reports
Mentor and train Education Specialists in SEIS following SELPA training
Attend Plan Review, Eligibility Evaluation, and Amendment IEP meetings as Administrative Designee
Review IEP documents for compliance
Track team IEP due dates
Supervise Education Specialists and work closely with Program Specialist to alert to any concerns
Work collaboratively with other departments
Support Audit files for compliance
Case Manage and provide substitute coverage for SAI sessions on an as-needed basis
Monitor and review student achievement (Star 360, Work Samples etc) with staff
State Testing
Attend SELPA trainings, as needed
Respond as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours, to parent, student, teacher, and admin inquiries via phone and/or e-mail during regular work week
Other duties as required by Program Specialist, as needed

Proficient in MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Excel, receiving and sending fax information, scanning information
Able to complete and review IEPs accurately
Knowledgeable in K12 curriculum

Certificates and Licenses:

Must hold a valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate/Severe Disabilities

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; and experience using a student information system and/or other type of database software. Experience moderating web meetings (Blackboard Collaborate, Webinar, Webex) for small and large groups

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Restrictions on Time Off:

Professional Development: No days off August 10th- 19th (Employees may take time off on dates not assigned to attend professional development/training)

Launch: No more than 2 consecutive days off August 10th – September 25th

Testing: No days off weeks of testing when staff member is assigned (April 26 – May 28th)

End of Year: Dates between June 14th and June 16th approved based upon completion of end of year tasks.

Use of sick time under the California Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 may be approved during the above restricted dates
