About Us

Sterling Real Estate Group is a family-owned real estate holding and development company. We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable bookkeeper to join our ten-person team and replace our accounting manager of 30 years. This role requires reliability and integrity, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, and willingness to use and continue to update the latest software and AI solutions available in the industry.

Our company is largely a real estate holding and management company comprising of 70 tenants. In addition to the holding and management company we are managing two real estate development projects and a new business enterprise launching next year. As of now we are processing roughly 200 transactions per month. An outside CPA handles all tax returns.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the movement of funds, maintaining financial records and providing financial reports but will also be expected to perform basic property management tasks and act as an executive assistant.

Required Skills

High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling financial information.
Reliability, discipline, and organization in managing payments and recordkeeping well before deadlines
Ability to use the latest software and AI tools and take responsibility for researching the latest technological innovations for office adoption
Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
Ability to self-manage and manage future employees by prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Functions

Process and manage all Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
Issue monthly financial reports and maintain cash flow projections alongside management.
Perform bank, credit card, and CAM reconciliations.
Maintain accurate records and manage an efficient and easy-to-use filing system.
Prepare journal entries and coordinate with accountants for audits and tax preparation.
Payroll processing, 1099 vendor tracking and W9 collection
Serve as primary point of contact for all owned properties coordinating maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements
Schedule and occasionally conduct property inspections and walkthroughs to assess condition and identify issues proactively
Manage relationships with tenants including lease administration, rent collection, move-in/move-out, renewals…etc.
Source, vet, and supervise vendors and contractors ensuring quality and cost control
Oversee insurance coverage for properties, including timely renewals and claims coordination
Ensure compliance with local housing codes, HOA rules, permits, and other regulatory requirements
Recommend improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls including updating software and AI systems and practices
Occasional response to after-hours emergencies.
Limited on-site contact with tenants and occasionally stepping in for on-site property managers when necessary

Education

Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and accounting experience will be considered.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
Experience managing full-cycle bookkeeping preferred.
Multi-location accounting experience is a plus.
Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations.
Advanced experience using QuickBooks is required, experience with yardi is preferred
