Job Summary

The Recreation Manager is responsible for the overall development, implementation, support and supervision of day-to-day operations and of the Community Schools initiative which is a partnership between Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation in collaboration with partners representing unions, universities, philanthropy, and government, as well as school staff, families, youth and community residents. Primary responsibilities include the supervision of personnel; program monitoring; initiative management; training, and the formation of community partnerships to enhance programming.

The ideal candidate has a deep investment and passion for the Milwaukee community and a vision for producing better outcomes for students, families, and the community of Milwaukee. This individual will focus on ensuring consistency towards initiative strategies, collaboration across recreation supervisors, schools and the Milwaukee Recreation Team.

Responsibilities

Provides guidance and supervision to recreation supervisors to ensure professional growth and fulfillment of job duties and responsibilities. ;
Develops and manages strategies for the implementation of the community school initiative as it aligns to district, school, and community wide improvement. Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates recreation associates.
Completes necessary paperwork including payroll, attendance, and seasonal reports. ;
Conducts regular site visits (hours consist of weekday and weekend evenings) to determine program effectiveness and to provide evaluation feedback and support to staff. ;
Arranges for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
Monitors participation trends and recommend adjustments to keep programs relevant.
Establishes and initiates standards, policies, and procedures and enforces policies regarding program operation.
Track and monitor school-level and initiative-level outcomes related to initiative goals and benchmarks.
Ensures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; prepares annual budget; ensures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, and time. ;
Works with the department Marketing team to prepare and coordinate promotional materials.
Administers program area customer surveys, assists in data interpretation, and manages programming changes based on feedback. ;
Establish partnerships with other MPS departments, governmental units, and community-based organizations to enhance community school's initiative development and service delivery.
Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Community Development, Cultural Foundations of Community Engagement, Community Leadership, Education, or related field.
Master's Degree preferred. ;
A minimum of three (4) years of experience in community organizing or school improvement implementation in an urban setting. ; ;
Certified First Aid and CPR/AED or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire. ;
