Client Accounting, Cleanup & Advisory Support

Bottom Line Services, a division of RBF Services, Inc., is seeking an Accounting Services Manager to join our growing team. For more than 30 years, we have provided comprehensive financial, tax, accounting, and advisory services to individuals, businesses, estates, and trusts.

Public accounting experience is required.

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional with public accounting or Client Accounting Services (CAS) experience to lead client accounting engagements, review staff work, clean up complex accounting records, and support our growing accounting services department.

This is not a basic bookkeeping role. We are looking for a hands-on accounting professional who can take ownership of client accounting work, solve messy accounting problems, support and train staff, and help us build a more standardized and scalable accounting function.

The right person will be comfortable working directly in the details when needed, but will also have the judgment, leadership, and communication skills to review work, delegate appropriately, improve processes, and help deliver clean, accurate financial information to clients and our tax team.

What You’ll Do

As our Accounting Services Manager, you will play a key role in improving the quality, consistency, and efficiency of our client accounting services.

Your responsibilities will include:

Evaluating opportunities to improve our accounting services through better use of technology, automation, workflows, and AI-enabled tools.
Creating and implementing standardized accounting procedures, checklists, workpapers, and documentation.
Delegating work appropriately and helping develop staff accounting skills.
Training, reviewing, and supporting staff members who perform routine bookkeeping and accounting work.
Leading and managing client accounting projects, including both recurring accounting work and complex cleanup engagements.
Diagnosing why accounts, reconciliations, or financial statements are incorrect rather than simply identifying that something does not balance.
Reconstructing incomplete or unreliable accounting records using bank activity, source documents, prior tax returns, payroll records, loan statements, and other available information.
Bringing disorganized or inaccurate books to a clean, reconciled, and tax-ready condition.
Reviewing general ledgers, reconciliations, and financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
Preparing or reviewing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting workpapers.
Identifying and resolving issues involving bank accounts, credit cards, loans, fixed assets, payroll liabilities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, equity, and prior-period activity.
Coordinating with the tax team to ensure accounting records and workpapers are ready for efficient tax preparation.
Communicating with clients to request missing information, explain accounting issues, and help improve their internal processes.
Managing cleanup engagements efficiently, including tracking time, monitoring scope, and helping ensure work is properly billed.

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and helping others get better.

You may be a great fit if you have:

Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, QuickBooks Desktop, Sage, or similar platforms.
A proactive, professional, and detail-oriented work style.
Interest in technology, automation, AI, and modern tools that can improve accounting workflows.
Strong experience in bookkeeping, client accounting services, controllership, public accounting, or small business accounting.
The ability to independently review, reconcile, and clean up a full set of books.
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliation.
Experience working with small and closely held businesses.
The ability to identify accounting errors, ask good questions, and determine what happened when records are incomplete or inaccurate.
Experience reviewing the work of others and providing constructive feedback.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple clients or projects at once.
Comfort communicating directly with clients.
A practical understanding of what is needed to prepare clean financial statements for income tax preparation.
Strong Excel skills.

What This Role Is Not

This role is not limited to transaction entry or basic bookkeeping. We are looking for someone who can think critically, take ownership of accounting quality, and help lead the development of our accounting services function.

The right person will be able to answer questions such as:

Why does this account not reconcile?
What activity is missing?
Was this transaction recorded correctly?
Can these books be relied on for tax preparation?
What process needs to change so this problem does not continue?
Which staff member can handle this work, and what training do they need?
