Full Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented English Language Editor to join our post-production team creating closed captions and related deliverables for film and television.

This is not a traditional copy editing or proofreading position. The primary responsibility is to listen carefully to the audio while reviewing an human/auto generated transcript, identifying and correcting any errors before the captions are delivered to our clients.

A successful editor has an excellent ear for spoken English and can quickly recognize when the transcript does not accurately reflect what was actually said.

Responsibilities

Listen to audio while reviewing the transcript line by line.
Correct misheard words, names, numbers, dates, and technical terminology.
Ensure the transcript accurately matches the spoken dialogue.
Correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting where appropriate.
Flag audio that is unclear or difficult to understand.
Meet production deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Required Qualifications

Exceptional command of written and spoken English.
Professional editing, transcription, captioning, or proofreading experience.
Excellent listening skills and attention to detail.
Ability to distinguish subtle differences in speech, accents, and pronunciation.
Ability to work independently and consistently meet deadlines.

U.S. English Listening Proficiency

As most of our projects involve American television programs and films, applicants must have exceptional familiarity with contemporary U.S. English as it is naturally spoken.

Candidates should be able to accurately identify:

Regional American accents and dialects
Informal speech, slang, idioms, and cultural references
Rapid, overlapping, muffled, or indistinct dialogue
Names, places, brands, and commonly used American terminology
Subtle differences between similar-sounding words and phrases

Native-level comprehension of spoken U.S. English is essential. This proficiency may have been developed through upbringing, education, professional experience, or extensive immersion in a U.S. English-speaking environment.

Applicants of all nationalities are welcome, but candidates must demonstrate this level of listening accuracy through a short audio-editing assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with closed captioning, subtitling, transcription, or broadcast media.
Familiarity with captioning software such as Ooona, Closed Caption Creator, Subtitle Edit, or similar tools.

The most important qualification for this role is the ability to listen critically. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving the puzzle of spoken language and takes pride in ensuring every word on screen matches what is actually heard.

Pay: $24.99 - $30.10 per hour
