Are you a Mechanical Designer or Engineer looking for a new challenge? Look no further! Somerville Architects and Engineers is hiring a Mechanical Designer or Engineer to join our team.

About the Position

We seek an individual with a collaborative spirit who can seamlessly work together with other top-talented architects, engineers, designers, and drafters to advance our projects. Somerville engineers are problem solvers who demonstrate strong critical-thinking abilities, great attention to detail, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Your role will involve

- Collaborating with other engineers while mentoring designers and drafters
- Performing building system assessments, documenting existing conditions, and writing reports that provide recommendations for refurbishment or replacement
- Writing scope of work documents for mechanical designs
- Clearly and effectively presenting complex mechanical engineering concerns and solutions to the owner and design team
- Conducting calculations for heating and cooling load, ventilation quantities, and mechanical equipment selection
- Utilizing BIM software and visualization methods to design heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and providing layouts
- Incorporating best practices and sustainability strategies into designs
- Ensuring projects meet client expectations and code requirements
- Providing estimates of probable construction costs for mechanical designs
- Coordinating with consultants and contractors
- Research new/emerging products, equipment, and systems
- Compiling system specifications, details, and schedules
- Performing field observation and ensuring adherence to mechanical design intent

Qualifications

Experience

- Four or more years of mechanical design experience for buildings in the healthcare, education, community, or commercial markets
- A strong portfolio of work

Technical Knowledge

- Experience with Revit, BIM software, and Bluebeam preferred
- Experience with Carrier Hourly Analysis preferred but not required

Education & Licenses

- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Designer of Engineering Systems (DES) credential or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- LEED accreditation preferred
