Full Job Description

DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform assessment prior to provider encounter.
Ensure that necessary supplies and equipment are on hand for treatment by the provider.
Knowledge of office’s OSHA and Exposure and Infection Control Policies and able to carry out such policy.
Knowledge of office safety rules and regulations and SDS sheets for products used by the practice.
Able to accurately chart assessments.
Available to assist the provider in patient exams and provide patient treatment as needed.

DUTIES: to assist the provider in the delivery of quality patient care by:

Bring patients and parents to a clean exam room and perform assessment (chief complaint, treatments and medication, OTC, herbals, home remedies, height, weight, head circumference, BMI, vision test, medication allergies, vital signs, urine dipstick, and other necessary items.)
Recommend immunizations needed, counsel patient/parent (side effects, preventable diseases, schedules, & concerns to report).

o Prepare and give immunizations as per provider’s order.
o Complete parent copy of vaccine records, and give parent copy of VIS.
o Document in EHR.

Assist provider in patient exam and treatment as indicated to include but not limited to: (pelvic exam, cultures, venipuncture, suturing, circumcision, injections, hearing tests, allergy injections, finger sticks, first aid, burn and wound care, catheterizations, tympanograms, respiratory treatments, specimen collection, splinting, etc.)
Label and complete proper lab forms.

o Log all labs performed and their results in the EHR.
o Monitor expiration dates on supplies.
o Order supplies used for lab procedures from the correct lab facility.
o Log in expiration dates.
o Rotate stock.
o Work with STAT lab as needed.

Bring urgent and STAT diagnostic results to the provider’s attention promptly.
Document all calls to or from patients and parents, including date, time and phone number.
Refill prescriptions per protocols through the EHR.
Assist in patient education with proper materials.
Maintain oxygen tank, code box, and expiration dates. Be familiar with code protocol.
Contact pharmaceutical reps when samples/supplies are needed.
Use universal precautions.
Follow OSHA guidelines and hazardous waste disposal precautions. Notify appropriate company for pickup of waste, per OSHA protocol. Be familiar with fire and safety policies.
Keep lab area, nurse’s station, patient bathroom, and exam rooms clean and well-stocked.
Check expiration dates per protocol and sign off on disinfection/cleaning schedule log.
Attend clinical and office staff meetings.
Attend and participate in mandatory yearly OSHA meeting and CPR training class.
Perform various duties as assigned by the providers, Nurse Manager, or Office Manager.
Obtain prior authorization for medications from insurances. Notify provider, patient and pharmacy of outcome.

REQUIREMENTS: Current license or medical certification, current BLS card, current education in HIV/AIDS, knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations. Flexible, congenial, responsible, tactful with patients, willingness to comply with office policy and perform additional duties as assigned by the nurse manager, office manager or the providers.
