Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, managing billing processes, and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance providers. Your expertise will help streamline the revenue cycle, improve patient records accuracy, and support the overall financial health of our practice. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to quality patient care through precise documentation and efficient billing practices.

Responsibilities

Review and interpret medical records, including clinical documentation, to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for inpatient and outpatient services.
Ensure accurate coding for all services rendered by utilizing EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems for billing and coding purposes.
Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance third-party payers, including health insurance companies, government programs, and other payers.
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection efforts, identifying reasons for rejection and resubmitting corrected claims as needed.
Maintain comprehensive medical records that support billing accuracy while complying with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement rates.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or incomplete records that could impact billing or coding accuracy.

Skills

Strong knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding systems, including coding for inpatient services and DRGs.
Proficiency in medical billing processes, insurance claim submission, and revenue cycle management.
Experience with EMR/EHR systems for electronic health record management related to billing and coding activities.
In-depth understanding of health insurance policies, third-party billing procedures, and medical collections strategies.
Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding standards necessary for accurate reimbursement.
Ability to interpret complex clinical documentation and translate it into precise codes compliant with industry regulations.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all billing and coding tasks.
