Full Job Description

Health Information Coder II (Remote – Training Onsite in Los Angeles)

Location: Primarily Remote (Training Onsite in Los Angeles, CA)
Duration: 9-Week Contract (Potential Extension)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay: Starting at $52.79/hour
Equipment: Company provided

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Health Information Coder II to support a leading academic healthcare organization. This is primarily a remote contract position; however, candidates must be available to attend mandatory onsite training in Los Angeles for the first 2–4 weeks before transitioning to remote work.

Responsibilities

Review physician documentation and medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Perform Professional Fee (ProFee) coding for physician clinic encounters across multiple specialties.
Support charge capture, coding validation, and documentation review.
Analyze coding-related claim issues, denials, and reimbursement discrepancies.
Validate EHR documentation and ensure coding accuracy.
Maintain compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and regulatory guidelines.
Collaborate with providers and revenue cycle teams to resolve documentation and coding issues.
Maintain coding quality, productivity, and compliance with AHIMA/AAPC standards.

Minimum Qualifications

2+ years of medical coding, billing, and abstracting experience.
Active CPC, CCS, or CHONC certification (required).
Experience with Professional Fee (Physician) Coding.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Experience reviewing physician documentation and validating medical records.
Understanding of physician clinic revenue cycle processes.
Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
Familiarity with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

Multi-specialty physician coding experience.
Experience with charge capture, claims analysis, and denial resolution.
Knowledge of coding compliance and regulatory requirements.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
