Remote Coding Edit SpecialistAbout the Opportunity

We are seeking experienced Coding Edit Specialists to join a growing remote healthcare coding team. This role is ideal for experienced hospital coders who enjoy solving complex coding issues, researching claim edits, and collaborating across Revenue Cycle, Coding, and Patient Financial Services to ensure accurate and compliant claim submission.

The Coding Edit Specialist reviews inpatient and outpatient coding-related claim edits, validates ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding, researches National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI/CCI) edits, Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), and medical necessity guidelines, and resolves coding issues that impact claim reimbursement. This position requires strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities

Review and resolve complex coding-related claim edits involving ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Research and validate coding issues related to NCCI/CCI edits, LCDs, medical necessity requirements, and payer guidelines.
Assign accurate ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes and validate MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignments for inpatient encounters.
Review inpatient and outpatient medical records to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal regulations and organizational policies.
Collaborate with Patient Financial Services, CDI, and other departments to resolve coding edits and support timely claim submission.
Abstract required clinical and administrative data elements.
Query providers when documentation clarification is needed in accordance with AHIMA/ACDIS compliant query guidelines.
Maintain established productivity and quality standards while working independently in a remote environment.
Participate in coding education, department meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Demonstrate professionalism, strong organizational skills, and excellent time management while supporting multiple facilities and EMR platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

Active coding certification required:
CCS, RHIT, RHIA (AHIMA)
OR CIC, COC (AAPC)
Associate degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of recent inpatient and outpatient hospital coding experience.
Experience assigning MS-DRGs and interpreting complex inpatient documentation.
Experience coding across multiple hospital service lines.
Experience working in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center and/or Academic Teaching Hospital.
Strong understanding of:
ICD-10-CM
ICD-10-PCS
CPT
HCPCS
NCCI/CCI edits
LCDs and medical necessity guidelines
Experience using hospital EMRs and encoder systems such as Epic, Solventum (3M), Optum eCAC, Cerner, and/or Meditech.
Previous remote coding experience preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of recent hospital coding experience.
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field.
Previous experience resolving coding edits, claim edits, coding validation, revenue integrity, or coding audit functions.
