Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our manufacturing operations in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment. In this role, you will oversee daily machining activities, ensure quality standards are met, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Your leadership will drive efficiency, safety, and technical excellence across the shop floor. This position offers an exciting opportunity to manage a skilled team while utilizing your expertise in CNC machining, blueprint reading, and manufacturing processes to deliver top-tier products.

Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate all machine shop activities, including CNC programming, setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines and CNC lathes using
Lead the team in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and technical drawings to ensure precise manufacturing.
Oversee the use of precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify part accuracy.
Manage tooling selection, setup procedures, and tool changes to optimize machining efficiency and quality.
Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve workflow, and enhance productivity on the shop floor.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols by maintaining a safe working environment and conducting regular safety audits.
Collaborate with engineering and design teams on CAD models created in SolidWorks or other CAD software for accurate manufacturing processes.
Train and mentor team members in machine operation, programming techniques (including CAM programming), and use of hand tools or power tools.
Maintain detailed documentation for production schedules, quality reports, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
Develop, coach, train, and evaluate team members to support growth and performance improvement
Partner with Manufacturing Leadership and HR on hiring, onboarding, training, counseling, and corrective action processes
Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and safety standards
Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Proven experience supervising a machine shop or manufacturing environment with strong leadership skills.
Minimum 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or lead experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in CNC programming and operation of CNC milling machines.
Basic understanding of CNC programming, including commonly used G-codes and M-codes
Understanding of machine capabilities and limitations to support efficient job transfers and production efficiency
Experience with ERP or MRP systems.
Solid understanding of GD&T principles for precise measurement and quality control.
Skilled in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models created with SolidWorks or similar software.
Strong mechanical knowledge of machining tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
Ability to perform basic math calculations related to machining tolerances and measurements accurately.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices to improve efficiency across operations.
Valid certification or experience operating forklifts and power tools safely within a manufacturing setting.
Strong understanding of machine shop operations.
Maintain production documentation, reporting, and operational records

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs or more
Frequently required to handle; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl
Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
