About The Carver: The Carver's mission is to equip all learners for global competitiveness by leading strategic partnerships with schools and communities that advance excellence and growth opportunities. Carver operates 60+ before-school, after-school, and summer programs in all K-12 public schools in Norwalk, Side by Side Charter School, the Classical Studies Magnet Academy in Bridgeport, Naugatuck High School, Stamford High School, and the Carver Community Center. With an annual budget of $10,356,289 (nearly tripled since 2020), The Carver serves more than 2,800 K-12 students a year, with 24 full-time and 486 part-time employees. Carver programming aligns with in-school curricula, occurs within the student's respective schools, and is led by each school’s daytime certified teachers. Recreational, wellness, and cultural components enhance a variety of skills for children. Our primary goal is for all Carver students to transition to the next grade on time and prepared.
Position Overview:
The Carver seeks an innovative, organized, and student-centered professional to serve as the part-time Program Coordinator & Curriculum Lead for the launch of Carver Voices: A Multimedia Showcase, a new youth-led visual podcast and multimedia storytelling initiative serving high school students in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Carver Voices is designed to help students in grades 9-12 develop future-ready skills in communication, digital media, storytelling, media literacy, ethical use of technology, interviewing, civic engagement, and multimedia production, while amplifying youth voice and leadership.
The Program Coordinator & Curriculum Lead will oversee curriculum development, program implementation, production quality assurance, student engagement, vendor coordination, and operational management for the initiative. The position will work closely with The Carver’s leadership team, research and program staff, Future Readiness Coordinators (FRCs), multimedia partners, school personnel, and community collaborators to ensure a safe, high-quality, and engaging learning experience for participating students.
The ideal candidate combines strong experience in curriculum development and educational leadership with a practical understanding of contemporary multimedia production, digital communications, podcasting, and youth engagement.
Program Structure:
· Approximately 25 high school students from Norwalk Public Schools
· Students drawn primarily from Norwalk High School and Brien McMahon High School
· Three sessions per week
· Two in-person sessions weekly
· One virtual session weekly
· Approximately two hours per session
· Initial curriculum planning and program development beginning August 2026
· Program launch beginning Fall 2026
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Program Design
· Design and develop the Carver Voices instructional curriculum and production framework.
· Create engaging project-based learning experiences aligned with workforce-readiness and multimedia learning goals.
· Develop instructional modules related to:
o podcasting and multimedia production
o storytelling and interviewing
o digital citizenship and media ethics
o responsible AI awareness
o civic engagement and respectful dialogue
o communication and leadership skills
· Establish student production workflows, schedules, editorial standards, and quality expectations.
Program Coordination & Operations
· Coordinate day-to-day implementation of Carver Voices programming.
· Oversee production schedules, student participation, guest scheduling, and publishing timelines.
· Coordinate with multimedia vendors, instructors, teaching artists, and industry professionals.
· Work collaboratively with Carver leadership, research staff, school personnel, and program partners.
· Ensure consistent communication with students and families.
· Support program documentation, scheduling, logistics, and reporting.
Youth Development & Student Engagement
· Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
· Build strong relationships with participating students.
· Encourage youth voice, creativity, collaboration, leadership, and responsible communication.
· Support student growth in confidence, professionalism, teamwork, and project ownership.
· Help students navigate constructive dialogue, ethical storytelling, and respectful public engagement.
Quality Assurance & Multimedia Oversight
· Maintain high standards for program quality and student-produced content.
· Support students in developing technical competencies in audio/video production and digital storytelling.
· Review content for quality, safety, professionalism, and alignment with program standards.
· Coordinate with industry experts and partners to ensure meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
Compliance & Youth Safety
· Ensure all program operations comply with The Carver, Norwalk Public Schools, and State of Connecticut youth safety and safeguarding requirements.
· Maintain awareness of student privacy, digital safety, ethical media practices, and responsible online engagement.
· Work closely with Carver leadership to ensure proper supervision, documentation, and risk management procedures are always followed.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess many of the following:
· Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in education, Communications, Media Studies, Educational Technology, Journalism, Youth Development, or related field preferred.
· Experience designing curriculum or project-based learning experiences for adolescents.
· Experience working with high school students in educational, nonprofit, media, arts, or youth-development settings.
· Understanding of podcasting, multimedia production, digital storytelling, video/audio editing, or related creative technologies
· Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
· Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, schedules, and production timelines.
· Understanding of digital citizenship, media ethics, youth safeguarding, and responsible technology use.
· Experience supervising or coordinating creative professionals, instructors, or vendors preferred.
· Ability to foster engaging, collaborative, student-centered learning environments.
