Job Description

Position Summary:

Seeking an experienced Cytotechnologist for a 14-week travel assignment. The Cytotechnologist is responsible for performing microscopic examination and interpretation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, assisting in the detection of cellular abnormalities, and ensuring accurate, timely laboratory results. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, maintain high-quality standards, and work collaboratively with pathologists and laboratory staff.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform microscopic evaluation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens.

Screen, identify, and accurately interpret normal, abnormal, and atypical cellular findings.
Prepare and evaluate specimens using Conventional, ThinPrep, Autocyte, and SurePath methodologies.
Process and examine a variety of non-gynecologic specimens, including ascitic fluid, esophageal, gastric, spinal fluid, and fine needle aspiration (FNA) samples.
Perform staining procedures and ensure optimal specimen preparation.
Conduct quality control and quality assurance procedures to maintain laboratory accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Verify specimen identification, labeling, and integrity before processing.
Communicate significant or abnormal findings to pathologists in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate documentation using the Epic electronic medical record system.
Follow laboratory safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and departmental policies.
Float within the facility as needed and within the scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications

· Minimum 1 year of Cytotechnologist experience required.

First-time travelers are not accepted.
Previous Charge experience required.
Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the International Academy of Cytology (IAC) is required.
Strong knowledge of cytology laboratory procedures and specimen analysis.
Experience in inpatient and outpatient laboratory settings preferred.

Any Specific Mandate skill required

· Gynecological cytology screening

Non-gynecological cytology evaluation
Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimen processing
ThinPrep, SurePath, Autocyte, and Conventional preparation methods
HP DNA testing
Specimen preparation and staining
Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA)
Specimen labeling and identification
Professional interpretation of abnormal and atypical cellular findings
